civilian shoe problem: "I had
my civilian shoes fixed in town
the other day. they were get
ting pretty well worn and I was
afraid l would ruin them before
I could find some place that had
leather, it is so scarce over here
and the shoes ar not replaceable
here either.” Upon reading this
item in her son’s letter, Mrs.
Geren immediately thought
about a pefect gift to send her
son, a pair of leather moccasins,
and thought perhaps some other

Woman's Week, and urge out

its local observance.
The theme of the Week is
"Living on the Home Front.”
and it should be the concern of
all our citizens. We know that
before our country can win the
war and the peace in the world,
we must win on the home front,
in our own country.

Sehroeders Honored
on 35th Anniversary
MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM C.
SCHROEDER. 252 Cass avenue,
were pleasantly surprised on
Sunday afternoon, when Mr.
Sehroeder s sister. Alvena. and
brothers, Fred and John, invited
them to the old Schroeder home
stead at Fair Haven for dinner,
to celebrate their 35th wedding
anniversary. Other guests were;
Mr. and Mrs. August Kaatz. Ma
rine City, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Houghton, Detroit; Mr. and
Mrs. Otto Schroeder and daugh
ters. Phyllis and Alice Mae. The
table was boautifu 1!> decorated
with varigated fall flowers in
low bowls at each end. and a
large cake, decorated with the
wedding dates 1908-11)43. in the
center The evening was spent
in playing games.
