The Estey Manufacturing Com pany have the walls of the new build ing nearly up. Mr. Fletcher has the for his new residence, Oliver and Park streets, completed. On Saturday evening Dr. Parkill returned from his three week's vaca tion spent at Jackson, running his son-in-law's drug store while he and wife his went on a pleasure trip to New York. The editor or The Times is under special obligations to Dr. Irving A. Yatson, Secretary of New Ham shire State Board of Health, for a copy of his annual report for the fis cal year ending April 30, 1883. It is an exceedingly interesting and valuable document. The Press says that Alderman Wolverton "moved that the city At torney be instructed to ascertain and report whether the so called 'Times Publishing (or printing), Com pany' is a legally chartered corpora tion." As usual, the Press mistakes. He was not instructed or even re quested to make any report, but sim ply to ascertain the fact. Nor is it true, as stated in the Press, that Aid. Dawes objected to or inquired into the sufficiency of the surety on the liquor bond of Christian Hux. It was another of the 'Aldermen who did that and Aid. Dawes should not be held responsible for the acts of his associates. Again, it is not true as stated by the Press that "Aid. Dawes moved that the bond be sent back for further security." This mo tion was neither made or seconded by him. Further, it is not true that Aid. Jones said "he knew that the Council authorized a contract at $55 Per year," because Aid. Jones knew that by oversight that resolu tion failed to be passed, and that thus far no action had been taken by the Council. He was simply ask ing the committee on printing for a report as to what had been done by them in the matter of a contract for the printing the prtsent year. Just that and nothing more. As we go to press we notice that Parker in receiving a dray load of that Magnetic soap. Basket of flowers with every three bars at 25c. For the finest Toilet soap go to Parker's Thursday morning the high water and accumulated mass of logs in the Grand River swept away the bridge of the D. & M. railway, and poured its torrent of water, logs and rubbish down upon the city carrying away in its track the bridges of the G. R. & I., and C, & W. M. railroads, and doing immense damage toroperty along the banks of the river: The sight is said to be a terrible one, and that the business men of Grand Rapids are fearful that the result will effect very disastrously the business of the city.
