AN OUTLAW, UlSAUTr. The Interest Caused In Southern Colorado ly the Appearance of a Daaulus; Female. Xcw3 has boon received iu Denver, ays tho Newt of that city, o! tho prea nco of tho notml Texas female bandit in Colorado. Sho antl her wale com panions, with a complete camp outfit, :tro campod witsin four miles of Mont Vista, near Del Norte, in tho southern lart of tho state. Sho and her gang . made their nppoaranco thcro about two weeks ago, and so far have resisted all attcinpUi at interview, and many effgrts liavo boen made to ascertain their busi ness in that locality. Tho citizons wero naturally curious about their presence, and when nil advances were repelled ly tho woman and her companions, the citijsens camo to tho conclusion that they wero thero for no good, probablv robbery. Not wanting them in their midst, and not knowing exactly how to get rid of them, a meeting was held iud a man commissioned to come to lcnvcr to nonsuit Gen. D. J. Cook. .Tho gentleman arrived in Denver, and held :i long conversation with tho general, but what plan, if any, was agreed upon rid tho neighborhood of tho suspi cious characters, is not known. Through the courtesy of Gen. Cook a reporter had an interview with the Kntlcman from Monto Vista. "Everybody in our. . neighborhood," he said, "don't tako much stock in the woman, believing her to bo a man or a ioy who has assumed tho femalo garb for a purpose, and that purposo is rob bery. Sho (I'll call her a she) and her companions went into camp, I think, auoui two wcoKs ago. Monday morn ing two huntera struck the camp, and wero going forward to it, when they ivcro stopped by a cirlish voico com manding them to halt. No sooner had they turned their backs on tho hospitable newcomer thau sho put her horso into a gallop and circled around them, ridiug With such skill and grace as to elicit t ho admiration of tho hunters. When they camo to Monto Vista aud told their story it was discredited, but sineo then everyono in tho place has had a liffipso of her and several of her malo tdmpanions, and two or three have had ti few moments conversation with her. I am one of the favored few in the latter TOJDCCt." i -What is sho like?" ., i "I should judgo him or her to bo about 18 or 19 years old, long black lutir that is allowed to float down her back, black eyes, a thin, brown, at tractive face, whito teeth, aud rather thin lips. Sho is not over 'y fect G inches in height, has a slim but well rounded figure, and her wholo make-up reminded mo of a wild cat. Sho had on when I saw her a tight fitting gray dress, short enough to tliscloso her buckskin moccasins and leggings. Around her waist was a whito leather belt supporting two scabbards,- in which were two largo ivory-handled re volvers. On her head sho woro a whito sombrero or cowboy hat, ono sido of which was pinned tip witli a silver bridle bit She was mounted on a thoroughbred gray stallion, and was one of tho prettiest pictures I havo seen for a good while. "I nskod her who sho was, aud sho replied in a not unmusical voice, but with a decided southern accent, that bo was tho 'Texas Queen.' I further asked her what her busiucss was and she replied that it consisted' in attend ing to her own business. I then asked her why 6ho would allow no ono to en ter her camp, and sho replied that sho would allow no ono to interview her, and if she allowed one person to come into her camp everybody clso would want to do the same thing, ami she wasn't going to allow anyone to meddle with her surroundings. While talking to her lhad gradually approached, but sho took in my every movemcut, and when 1 was within about ten feet of Iter slm wheeled her horso and was oft' like an arrow. She eirclod around mo for several minutes, gradually narrowing tli( circle until she was in about twenty fret, nrobably. of where I stood, aud .suddenly reined her horso back on its haunches. Plac ing the bridle-reins in her tcctli sho drew her revolvers and, motioning with her left hand lo two small trees which stood on cither side, and about tho samo distance from the trail, proba bly about iifty yards ahead, sho urged her horso to fuil speed, and when what seemed to mo directly between tho trees she lircd both revolvers, and without turning to look around vodo on in tho direction of her camp. I was curious lo see the result of her marksmanship, and on going to the trees found n bulletin each ono about tJto samo distance from tho ground. She has also displayed her wonderful markmanship tocvcral others in our place, and all of them assert that they havo never seen any one, even in this land of good shots, so remarkable skill ful with tho pistol." Has anyono else found out any inoro about her than you ItavcP" "I think not " Sho has been seen sev eral times mounted on a superb bay horse, which is as well trained as her gray and probably as tlect. To toll you tho truth, wo dont know what to mako of her. Sho won't allow anyono to get near enough lo capturo her, and as sho hasn't done anything to warrant us in using force to arrest her, we don't know what to do. Thero is ono thing sure, howovcr, wo don't want her itt our neighborhood, and for that reason I canto to Denver to consult with Gen. Cook. Wo aro not scared, but wo aro naturally curious, and want the mystery explained. Not ono among us who has ccn the 'miceii' but believes it is a man masquerading in female attire." Did you over hear of the femalo out law of Texas, who was chased into Arkansas and then into Indian Terri tory, whore sho was at last accounts?" "No; I never heard of her." The gentleman was shown a slip from a St. Louis paper giving a de scription of tho beautiful outlaw and an interview with her, in which she said I that ho hntt uuvor bwn intvrv o i. Strango to say. Gen. Cook had heard of iho Texas femalo outlaw. Af er reading her description aud characteris tics no is inclined to tho belief that the strango character camped near Monto Vista is onu and the same person. When asked if he wero going to attempt her arrest ho said he hadn't heard anvthing about It,, but if ho attempted to " iotei iew uer uc wouiu uo so. The rock foundation in South Carn- Una and neighboring States slopes from the mountains of the Appalachian sys temwhere it is at tho surface to the uplands, and the slope is continued under tho overlying soil and deposits of tho lowlands to a point one hundred miles from tho coast, where it begins to fall at a shat jxsr angle. Tho formation along tho coast vpon which Charleston rests is largely a deposit caused by the natural transfer of soil and fragmentary rocks from the mountains and highland during a very long period. From onu jcnlury to another this load washed down from tho highlands has been growing heavier, and tho seaward slopo of the rock table underneath has given it a seaward tendency, in the depths beyond a point 100 "miles from shore thero was nothing to restrain this ten dcuey. At last a time camo when tho tendoncy became irresistible and the great mass slipped seaward. Such re adjustments of tho surface of the earth nro continually being made. In some regions they are hastened by volcanic , action. Great masses that might havo remained almost stationary for a ecu- turv in the absence of any disturbing influence have received from volcanoes the impetus rcquirod to move them. This influence may be interchangeable. A land-slip may sometimes havo caused a volcanic eruption by suddenly in creasing the pressure upon a deposit of lava. Moreover, it is plain that the depths of tho earth are hot, whether there be a molten internal mass or not, and tho introduction of sea water by gravitation through fissures into heated cavities may cause the development of steam which will exert its force in .dis turbing tho surface. This may bo the cause of some earthquakes or land slides. A. Y. Times. mm A Powerful I tot tie. The following story is told of the General Traffic Manager of a Southorn railroad.
