The report of the Street Commissioner ' was read and ordered placed on file. The City Treasurer made the following report, which was accepted: - Owosso, July 11th, 1887. Parmelly and J..W. Stockwell; the re port was accepted, unanimous consent was Sivcn, and the accounts allowed. Ayes 7. nays 0. The same committee also reported in favor of allowing the accounts of J. D. Evecs, F. E. Welch, Fred Morse, L. Vau T)usen, and witness and juror fees in Lee case as presented, and J. E. Turner's bill of $00.90 at $30.45. The report was ac cepted and the accounts allowed. Ayes 7, nays 0. The committee on Ways and Means to whom was referred the petition to furnish vvHler for sprinkling Main street reported lie matter back to the" Council without recommendation. Upon motion the com mittee on Supplies and Expenditures were instructed to contract with L. E. Wood rd fcr water at the rate of $30 for the balance of the year. Ayes 7, nays 0. On motion the report of the committee on Ways and Means on the petition of M. R. Faughner was taken from the table. A motion to adopt the report was lost by the following1 vote: Ayes, Aid. Frieseke, Titcomb and Wiley 3; nays, Aid. Keytc, Robbins, Wells andJWolverton 4. On" motion the resolution passed nt the special meeting in regard to giving L. E, Woodard $2,300 for public improvements whs reconsidered. On motion the resolution was amended so as to make the two orders payable Jan uary 1, 1833. Ayes 7, nays 0. Aid. Wells offered the following resolu lion, which was accepted and adopted. Ayes 7, nays 0. liinolcetl. That the Mayor appoint a com mittee of three to arrange plans and prob able cost of a new bridge over the Shia wassee river on Mulberry street, and re port to the Council as soon as possible. The committee on Grading and Side walks was Instructed to have a'culyert put in across Main street on the west line of Shiawasspe street. . Aid. Wells introduced an ordinance to provide for the trimming of shade trees find for cutting grass and weeds in front of air premises in the city of Owosso. Hale, of Pertington, spent ' Sun day with friends here, and report sjl'iisiness ia a flourishing condition. Geo. W. De'twilcr and Dr. J. S. Bare nre going to Mackinaw to rusticate. Today at ,2 o'clock, Morris Kavanaugh went into a . drug f tore and asked for ten crains of morphine. On being asked what ho wanted it for answered that it waa for two women, and the druggist wanted to divide it accordingly, but he. said they would do it themselves. . After receiving the niorphiue he went to the Bridge saloon, -where he had been p issing a good deal of his time, and calling two of his newly made, acquaintances up to the bar culled for the beer. He then took the envelope with the morphine in it, emptied It into the glass of beer, and be- fore they could prevent him he had drank It down, After drinking it he said: 'Boys, this id my last drink."- They at or.ee called a physician and he used h's best efforts to save his life but they were of no avail. In his pocketbook was found a number of rail way maps nnd two photographs, one of a young lady and the other of a small girl child. They teem to be of his family, as they both resemble him. Several small papers with addresses of Michigan people were also found in his pockets. The above is taken from a paper handed us by Mr. Jas. Williams, and is in part true. Mr. Cavannugh did attempt to com mit suicide, but was unsuccessful.
