None of the men who did the snooting were discovered. The governor replied that he had taken the proper course in calling on the sheriff, but that tinder the statute military aid could only be extended when asked for by the sheriff. The governor said that he is determined to use every means to prevent violence, that he is determined to maintain the law at whatever cost. He has ordered three companies of militia to be ready to march at a moment's notice. Those in readiness are the two Huntington companies and the one at Milton. The Entire Wholesale District In Port- laud Is Flooded to the Uepth of Six to Ten Peel Southern Pacific Trains Are the Only Uuea Kiiterlng the City at Present. Poutland, Or.. June 0. Slowly and surely the waters of the Willamette river at this point continue to rise and the indications are that it will continue several days to come. The river now stands 83.2 feet above the low water mark. At Umatilla the Columbia stands 84.5 feet above and at Pasco 84 feet above. It is impossible to approximate the amount of damage inflicted upon this city in damage to property and to houses of business. The entire whole sale district is flooded to the depth of 6 to 10 feet. The damage on the river front alone will amount to nearly 1,000,0000. There is scarcely a wharf or warehouse that has not suffered more or less. The First National bank. Portland National bank, Bank of British Co lumbia, the London and San Francisco bank, the United States National and the Merchants National have all moved to higher ground. The Southern Pa cific is the only line running trains into the city, lue Union Pacific is unable to establish its river service between here and Umatilla. The Northern Pa cific is still bringing its trains to the city from Kelso on the transfer boat. Many adjacent points are having a similar experience. WERE IN A HURRY.
