The foundation for the new court house will be put in this fall, so It can settle during the winter and ev erythiug be in readiness for work on the superstructure next spring. A crew' of telegraph ground ant", wire men is engaged in extending the W. U. and O. It. & N. wl.e: from Elgin into this county, folio .ving the line of the railroad. The O. -ft & N. is doing the construction wo "If which will take about 90 days. Throa linemen and 15 ground men are em ployed. The O. R. & N. will have a serie of wires with which to run trains on the blanch when the service Js put on. In addition to the O. 11. & N wires there will be a Western Unioii wire in connection and thereby tela graphic communication with tha out side world is established. It 1 planned to establish relay offices a! Enterprise and at Joseph for the Western Union. This' will be a grea boon for the residents of this coun ty, as heretofore we have had to de peud on telephone relays.- Trains on Riparia Road. Regular train service on the Ri paria road started July 7. Oae mixed train and one passenger are run, making close connections with the trains at Riparia. Large Shipment Hogs and Sheep Hotchkiss Cleans Up The Mutto. Sheep Hogs Bringing Fair Prices. M. IC. Hotchkiss shipped two ca loadti of hogs from Enterprise Mon day, (he fat porkers being taken In wagons to Llgin. W. 13. A. Watson of Alder Slope sold one car load to Mr. Hotchkiss and the reniaindei were picked up on Prairia Creek Harry Nottingham contributed 13 tc the bunch for which he raeelve $4.G0 a hundred. Nottingham make a big success in hog raising and says if his whoie place was in alfalfa lit would have pigs to do the bar Vesting. Scarcity of Mutton. Mr. Hotchkiss bought and sjl 327.r) head of two-year old wetners last week. He bought Wagner Bros, baud of 1450 at $2.75 each and a once received a good offer for them from a Seattle buyer who was in the county looking for mutton sheep. Mr Hotchkiss also bought 1825 head o two-year-old wetheis from C. L Hartshorn at $2.8d. Tills bunch is t( bo delivered August 1. The Wagns sheep are on the way out to Elin. Mr. Hotchkiss says there Is a grea scurcity of two-year-old wethers 1 ibis county; in fact these two pur chases just about clean up tha class of sheep. THREE CELEBRATIONS OF GLORIOUS FOURTH The celebration at the head of the lake attracted a crowd estimated at I.'OO to 2000 poople, Saturday. The address by Judge Lowell is high ly spoken of. Wallowa and Joseph played throe games of baseball, Wal Iowa winning Friday 2G to 6, and Sunday IG to 3. Joseph won Satur day 8 to 3. There was a fair sized crowd a! Lostlne and the program was enter taining. Daniel Boyd de'lverej a splendid address. The play by the Los i hie Dramatic club is very highly praised. Contrary to expectations few went from here to Flora, but reports say it was one of the best celebrations over held in the county. Col. F. S. Ivanlioe was the orator.
