The members of the Win One Class of the Presbyterian Sunday school were pleasantly entertained at a lawn party Thursday evening, by Misses Alta Davis and Joyce Craig, at the home of Miss Davis. Punch and wafeis were served.' Mrs. W. J. Funk and daughter Miss Margaret, of Oakland, Calif., conclud ed a delightful visit with relatives and friends in Wallowa county Friday morning. Robert Eakin, Jr., son of Supreme Judgs and Mrs. Robert Eakin, of Sa lem arrived this morning to spend a few days with mends here. Mr. Ea kin has been a student in Willamette and has won considerable distinction as an orator, says the La Grande Ob server. Knodell has received the sad aews of the sudden death of his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Knodell, of Albion, 111., passed away at) the iorae of her son, Henry Knodeil, .n Chicago, July 28. Airs. STRUCK BY FALLING TREE AND KILLED John Williams, a sawmill mam of Wallowa, was killed) Tuesday while cutting down trees for saw tags. He was struck by a limb from a dead amarack which was struck byi the tree he was felling. Mr. Williams was one of the firm of .McLaughlin & Williams who operate a saw mill on Bear cretk near Wallowa. YOUNG LADIES SCALE EAGLE CAP MOUNTAIN Misses Joyce Craig and Alta Davis and the tatter's brother, Ira Davis, re turned home last week from a delightful camping trip. The party left Enter prise Tuesday, going up Hurricane Creek canyon on horseback. Wednes day they ascended Eagle Cap mountain, a feat very seldom accomplished ty women, as it is a tiresome and difficult climb. The young ladies consider the trip well ' worth the effort, as the view from the summit is a magnificent one. The climb was made in three hours. They came across to the west fork of the Wallowa Thursday and re turned home Friday, coming down" past the head of the lake. - CHURCH SERVICES.
