Wood is the one exception in the two new counties of Mellette aud Bennett. As rapidly as a new buildiug goes up. it is finished up un<Upainted. Anoth er thing that pleases the eye, is the uniformity of mlor. Nearly every building has the same color—gray, with white trimmings -a very neat color scheme. The reason for the completeness of things is that the town has never Ikjcu I loomed. Its rapid growth is due to the necessity for buildings to house the business enterprises that have, are still and will eontiuue to thrive, be cause our \a.st territory demands their thrift. Nothing temporary here, nothing which the territory will not support- Aud there is still room for more busi nesses, for instance, a drug store. John Mc.Math. an old timer in these parts, stopped to camp near a couple of buildings southwest of towu the other day, thinking that lie would meet with the same hospitality that is customarily dealt out toeveryone iu this new country. But he found that he was badly mistaken. Instead of beiug welcomed by the few souls who seemed to ha hi ta te the place, he was told that he was in a town aud that his mules were not supposed to eat the grass off the townsite. His mules drank up all the water nlxiut the place *■ out of a bariel- aud he got abused for that, although he ha<l been in formed that they had three good wells 011 the townsite. After having suffered a few more unpioasantarios, John hitched up and drove over to Wood, where ho knew he would be welcome at all times. The reporter, after hearing his story, asked him where the place was and he answered in a disgusted tone, “Berkeley.” According to latest returns. Ster ling. for senator, has won over Gam ble by übout 1.100. Byrue, for gov ernor. 36,752, Fgnn 27,923, Cull 6,331. On presideut. Roosevelt won lirst place. Taft next, LaFollette next. The democrats seem to favor K. S. Johnson for governor, aud Wilson for president. It would seem that with this elec tion, the old standpat-progrossive factional light which has troubled the republican ranks iu South Dakota lor so many year* has ceased to exist. If you have nothing else to do. put in all your time boostiog the ton u aud community you live iu. If you are so busy .you don't kuow where you’re at, forget it for a minute aud do a little boosting anyway. You will lx* repaid a thousand-fold. Don't wait for the other fellow; lie is probably busy. too. I'se your brain in studying out wavs of advancing the progress of your towu. spend a little time and money and if the town is iiot worth boosting, in your estimation, you had better move out. Do thiugs. C. Wilson and Madge Lillie, lioth of this city, were unitetl in marriage at the home of the groom’s parents at Colome, on June sth. After a few days honeymoon they returned here, where Mr. Wilson is in the well con tracting business. Neither of the happy couple need any introduction, as they are well and favorably known here. Congratula tions from Tiif. Pioneer. Today is official llag day aud it was fittingly observed. The business men have purchased a (lag the dimensions of which is seven by fifteen leet. A forty foot flag staff was erected and this tnorniug the flag was unfurled to the breeze with fitting ceremonies. This section was visited by a good soaking rain Wednesday, which came just when it was needed to freshen up the grass aud crops. A few more like it at weekly'intervals will make a bumper crop and that will forward the progress of the new counties im mensely. LX ... Neatest 1 own in Rosebud Country.
