Members of the Headquarters company, many of them veterans of the battles of North Africa and Italy and with long overseas service, play a vital part in the steady flow of munitions, food and supplies to the infantryman. Hundreds of tasks, unpublicized and without glamor but necessary to the advance on Germany, are all part of a day’s work to these soldiers who have such an important role in the con duct of the war. Arthur MacAr thur’s headquarters on Leyte in the Philippines. This group of WAC was the first to be in that area. Receives Award PVT. LESLIE E. MORRIS, hus band of Mrs. Louise Morris of 123 Ford avenue, has been awarded the Expert Combat Infantryman’s Med al. The presentation was made on October 23. Since receiving the medal. Pvt. Morris was wounded on November 8 in Germany. He has been removed to a hospital somewhere in England. Before entering the Army, Pvt. Mor ris was employed as assistant man ager of the Dow’n River Federal Savings and Loan Association. WAYNE PREPARES FOR ANNUAL "THE MESSIAH" Joseph Wargo, Jr., of 3342 Van Alstyne boulevard is a member of Wayne University's musical groups which are preparing for the Uni versity's 15th annual production of Handel’s “The Messiah”, scheduled for presentation at the Masonic Temple in Detroit in approximately two weeks. Because in past years thousands of music lovers have been turned away from the Wayne production. University authorities this year have scheduled performances on Decem ber 12 and 13 at 8:15. Tickets are available at the University ticket office and at Grinnell's. More than 100 helicopters have rolled off the world’s helicopter as sembly line at Bridgeport's Sikorsky division of United Aircraft. Produc tion has been stepped up to five planes a week. After completing boot trailing at Manhattan Beach, N. Y., recruit* may be assigned to duty afloat or ashore anywhere in the world. Boot camp takes eight weeks to complete. Enlistment in the Coast Guard is for three years, or for the duration of the war, plus six months, at the discretion of the Coast Guard. Recruits must have 20-30 corrected vision in each eye, be not less than 64 inches in height, and must have a minimum of 20 teeth, 14 of which must be serviceable for masticating.
