B >SK I SHH i SECOND LIEUTENANT HENRY Sokolowski, 21, son of Paul Sokolow ski, 1861 Fifth street, won his navi gator’s wings and AAF commission this week during graduation cere monies at the Hondo AAF po6t theatre. First Lieutenant Daniel G. Miller of Chicago. 111., veteran combat navigator recently returned from the Mediterranean Theatre of Op erations, was principal graduation speaker. Without going into detail, Miller told of the time he and his bomber crew were captured by the Germans. “The Nazi chow wasn’t any good,” Miller told the Hondo field graduates, “so we left.” The navigation schools graduates, representing almost every state in the Union, have just completed 16 weeks of strenuous air and ground training at Hondo Field, first U. S. airbase built exclusively for training navigators. • * * Promoted To Sergeant RECENTLY promoted to rank of Sergeant was Robert C. Yops. Yops left for overseas in the first part of July and was promoted to Corp oral in January. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Yops of Eureka. His wife lives at 435 Elm street. * • • McHattie Promoted JOHN W. McHATTIE, of 140 Riv er bank, has completed his training at the Great Lakes, Illinois, Naval Training Center, and has been pro moted to Fireman first class. HOUNSELL who is now overseas has received the rating as coxswain. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Hounsell, 4048 Albion street. • • * Takes WAC Oath BERNADINE HELEN ABBOTT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Abbott, of 323 Clark, Wyandotte, was sworn into the Women’s Army Corps at a private, February 8. 1945 under the new’ WAC Medical Tech nical Training Program. Pvt. Abbott attended Trenton high school and }ves formerly employed at Ford Motor Cos. WAC Pvt. Abbott leaves on or about March 1 for basic training at Fort Des Moines, lowa. Upon completion of the prescribed six weeks course, she will undergo an additional six weeks training as a Medical Technician and then be as signed to one of the many Army Hospitals throughout the United States and overseas. • * « Pnybylski On Leave FIST LT. EDWIN W. PRZYBYL SKI is home on a short leave prior to his departure for overseas duty. Lt. Przybylski, who has been in service almost 2 years, is married and the father of a 4 months old boy. He is a FTight Leader of a Troop Carrier Squadron and flies the tremendous, new Curtis Com mando C-46. Appointed Pastor of Methodist Church The Rev. Milton H. Bank, pastor of the Hancock, Michigan Methodist Church for the past four years, has been appointed pastor of the Tren ton Methodist Church. The Rev. Bank will begin his pastorate in Trenton February 15. He succeeds the Rev. Marshall W. Hoyt, who served as pastor for the past 10 years, and who recently accepted pastorate at the Oak Park Methodist Church, Flint. A graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio, the Rev. Bank took graduate work at Boston Uni versity in Massachusetts. From that university he received his Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Arts degree, and one year resi dence work toward his doctorate. While at Boston University, he was pastor of the Holbrook Metho dist Church. His first assignment in the Detroit Conference was to the Onaway, Michigan, Methodist Church. Later he served as asso ciate minister of the Nardin Park Methodist Church, Detroit, before going to Hancock. Rev. "Enemy of Women" is the co-feature. Trenton Tops Blood Donor Quota A total of 209 pints of blood was contributed last week by Trenton donors in the village’s Bth Blood Blank, according to Mrs. Delbert Bidleman, chairman. A quota of 200 pints was set. A total of 275 registrations were made, the differences occurring from re jections and failures to be present. Trenton’s next Blood Donor date is set for May 31. The Blood Donor date and activities are under the sponsorship of the Trenton-River view Branch, American Red Cross. ORCHIDS SENT TO ALMA MATER A dozen valuable orchid plants have been sent to Michigan State college by a former chemistry stu dent. Lt. Robert Horton of Lansing, from his Army post “somewhere in the southwest Pacific.” "While they suffered from the long hard journey, every effort will be made to estab lish the rare plants. William son, of Church Place, Trenton. Charles E. Brake, deputy super intendent of Wayne Coynty Schools, was the principal speaker. Also speaking w’as Sgt. Pack, WAC, urging Trenton women to cooperate in securing enlistments in the Wom en’s Army Corps. Paul Tiefer, Trenton acting post master, furnished the musical part of the program by singing several selections, accompanied at the piano by Elwyn Hoagland. Tea was served following the pro gram with Mrs. Herschell Blanks and Mrs. George S. Keough presid ing. Mrs. Williamson was assisted by Mrs. Charles Wiber, Mrs. John C. Jacoby, and Mrs. John Huntley Boyd. The conservation department’s di visions of lands, forestry, geology, parks and forest fire are financed by legislative appropriations from the general fund of the state.
