the St. Casimir quintet, in a very
thrilling game, by one basket; 42-
40. Eugene Gurzenda led the
Comets with 20 points and took
honors of the evening. This was
Gene's last game before entering
the Armed Forces.

the Comets when evecl the two met
at the St. Casimir gym. It was
Gurzenda who started things roll

game. Galecki brought the Cres

successive baskets. Gurzenda came
through on Todajewski’s foul, fol
lowing with a stupendous shot from
the corner, making the score 5-4.
Barcikowski sank his first basket of
the game with Grupczynski doing
likewise on Spigiel’s pass and scor
ing on Todajewski’s foul for an ad
ditional three points. The St. Cas
imir Crescents then acquired two
successive baskets, one by the for
ward. Kociemba. and the other by
Captain Leszczynski. As Galecki
was penalized with a technical foul.
Gurzenda scored for the Comets,
ending the quarter 13-10, Mt. Car
mel leading.
HOLD SHORT LEAD OVER
ST. CASIMIRS
The Crescents were first to score
in the second quarter when Brud
zynski sank a basket for St. Casi
mir’s. This was, however, counter
acted as Gurzenda scored another
two points for Mt. Carmel. As Gal
ecki completed another basket for
the Crescents, an automatic time
out was called with the Comets hold
ing a one point lead. When play
resumed, Grupczynski scored two
free throws on Leszczynski’s foul.
Ardanowski and Oleszkow’icz entered
the game replacing Todajewski and
Brudzynski. Leszcynski racked up
two more points for the Crescents
making the score 17-16. After com
pleting another basket for the Com

fouling; Leszczynski making both
shots count. Dick Urbanek scored
a beautiful basket from the corner,
but this was checked as the Cres

The fast-stepping Mount Carmel
Comets kept up their winning pace
last Friday night by defeating St.
Casimir 42 to 40. Playing his last
game before going into the Armed
Forces Gurzenda finished in great
style—knocking off 20 points to lead
the Comets to their victory. If the
loss of Gurzenda is not felt too bad,
the Comets should repeat this year
and win their division honors. Any
way, gang, let's see what you can
do with the chips down.
From here it looks like Coach Bob
Bednark is going to have trouble
filling Gurzenda’s shoes. It also
looks like it will be either John
Kowalewski or Elwood Hebda will
make the first strong grade. Which
one?
