Comets Drop First
Games of Season
The Mt. Carmel Comets lost their
first two baseball games of the sea

to St. Pats 11-0.
In the first game against Sacred
Heart. Barcikowskl, pitching for Mt.
Carmel allowed but four hits and
five earned runs; the remaining were
due to errors. The Comets scored
their first two runs in the first
inning. After Grupczynski was
called out on strikes, Spigiel reached
first and moved to second base as
Gambicki walked. Fronczak then
grounded out, Buckingham to Papke.
John Sokolowski then brought in
the two base runners with a long
double, but died on base when Ma
chnacki struck out.
Sacred Heart tied up the score
in their first inning as Fuhrman
walked, Papke grounded out and
Muir reached frist on an error, ad
vancing Fuhrman to second. On
another errort Burt brought in the
tying runs. The other two batters
were retired without trouble. In
the second Inning the Comets went
down in order, while Sacred Heart
banged up four runs, with two
walks and three hits, giving them
a four run lead, 6-2. Mt. Carmel

SPORT SHOTS by harry whitlow
The Roosevelt baseball team is
really having their troubles all
games so far this year have been
decided by the margin of only one
run—winning one and losing two.
Last Friday night in a swell game
they were beaten in the seventh in
ning when Fordson crossed the
plate for that big one and the
game ended 2 to 1 for Fordson. Bob
Girardin pitched a nice game al
lowing seven hits, fanning three.
Wyandotte scored in the second
inning when Springstead singled
and Stepanik followed suit, Stahl
man forced Stepanik at second and
Cripps fanned. Girardin was hit
by a pitched ball and the sacks
were full. Pritchett walked, forcing
in Springstead with the first run,
then to end it, Caterino went out
on a ground ball to second. The lo
cal team had a great chance in
the last inning with two on but
they were unable to score.
The Wyandotte City Recreation
Leagues got away to a good start
last week. Several games had to
be called off because of cold and
rain but there were some real
played. In Class A softball,
nos he Wayne Recreation team wal
oped the Grosse He Naval Base at
ti<SPulaski Park 8 to 5. The Wayne
raggang showed a nice team and will
Afcgive the leaders trouble this season.

wHfeol Park Cleaners, anew aggrega
fifction in Class A softball, won from
idSC.A.S.U. in a thriller, 3 to 1. This
is a team that will bear watching
for the Cleaners showed some high
class stuff. Over at Allen Park,
Sharpies were no match for that
fast Allen Park gang and went
down in defeat, 18 to 5. All told in
softball the teams have lined up
some nice players and the winners
this year will know that they have
been in a battle.
