THE WYANDOTTE NEWS - HERALD TAGS FOUR Enroute Home Two more Wyandotte men are now enroute home from the Euro pean Theatre. William J. Wolthaus has reported to the Air Lift Distribution Center at Camp Blanding. Florida before transferred to a reception center nearer home. Wolthaus has spent 35 months overseas and will spend a returnee furlough here. T/Bgt. Julian J. Jackubiec, son of of Mrs. Mary Poltaranus, is a mem ber of the five-star Santa Fe Div ision which ended its occupational duties in Germany during the sec ond week of July and then was transferred to a redeployment camp near Reims, France. Elements of s he Division served as Honor Guard for President Truman when he ar rived at Antwerp. Mahalak Graduates CHICAGO Ranking first in a class of eighteen. Raymond John Mahalak, AMM2c. graduated from the Navy’s Aircraft Propellor School at the Naval Air Technical Train ing Center, 87th and Anthony ave nue, Chicago, it was announced by CapL R. L. Mahalak intends to study bookkeeping and account ing and start a business of his own. Bartolotta On Luzon WITH THE 32d INFANTRY DI VISION IN NORTHERN LUZON. P. I.—Private First Class Philip J. Bartolotta. son of Mr. and Mrs. James Bartolotta of 239 Antoine street, Wyandote. is now with the 32d Infantry Division near Baguio in Northern Luzon, Philippine Islands. PFC Bartolotta was assigned to the famous "Red Arrow" Division while it was battling the enemy along the Villa Verde Trail in the Caraballo mountains. Before entering the Army. Bar tolotta was employed at the Wy andotte Chemicals Corporation. He came into the service during March i 1943, received his training at Camp Butner, North Carolina and em barked for overseas duty December 6, 1944. Corp. William B. Jamieson, Jr., son of W. B. Jamieson. Sr., 97 Pop lar street, is home after six years in the army. His service record shows a Presidential Unit Citation, three battle stars, and 18 months service in the China-Burma-India Theater where he fought with the British Army on the Burma Road. After he entered the service in 1939, Corp. Jamieson was sent to Panama for jungle training and returned to California for moun tain training. He volunteered for the task force and was sent over seas. Four more of his brothers are in service, Gail, a chief cook in the Navy is in Germany, Robert (Ken) is a chief electrician in the Navy now at Norfolk after 13 months in the Pacific, and John in the Mer chant Marine. Corporal Gordon Henry, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Henry, 286 Riverbank. arrived in Wyandotte on August 4. He spent two weeks here and will spend two weeks visiting relatives in Paris, and Quincy, Illinois, before reporting for re assignment. While he was home he celebrated his first wedding anni versary, the war ended, and he celebrated his birthday. His wife is the former Aliena May Todd of Quincy. Illinois. Cpl. Henry was with the 772nd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He served in the Ist, 3rd and 9th Armies. Price enlisted In the Navy Air Corps a year ago and he has been out on the carrier, U.S.S. Lake Champlain. Two local army men are return ing to the states under the ‘ Green Project” by which the men come back by planes of the Air Trans port Command. Joseph F. Stanis zewski, 1121 Eighth street, and Cor poral Ralph H. Chitwood. 2349 Eureka are the two. Staniszewski spent seven months overseas with the Tenth Mountain Division and Chitwood spent 24 months overseas with Headquarters Demolition in the Persian Gulf Command in Iran. Staff Sergeant Joseph J. Tayak, 11546 Grant, is in France with the 43th Infantry Division which is coming home for redeployment to the Pacific. The 45th Division was an invasion outfit on D-Day in Sicily and at Salerno. Corporal Guy S. Grogg, 1706 Bid dle avenue, is a local army chauf feur who is being redeployed to the Pacific from Camp Washington, near the fortress-citadel of Laon. France. An Army release slates his unit fflr direct redeployment. Pfc. Johu Dawidko, after serving 17 months with the famed 28th “Bloody Bucket” Division, is home for 30 days. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Dawidko of 2923 Four teenth street, Dawidko landed in England and saw action in Nor mandy, Northern and Southern France, Eelgium, Luxembourg. Hol land, and Germany. He has the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf cluster for wounds re ceived during the Battles of Nor mandy. and the Bulge, also the Good Conduct Ribbon, the Euro pean theater ribbon with four bat tle stars and the Combat-Infantry badge for exemplary service in ac tion against the enemy. A brother. Ralph, is with the Engineering Avi ation Battalion in the Pacific. Local Men At Great Lakes Four young men of this area are receiving their initial Naval indoc trination at the U. S. Naval Train ing Center, Great Lakes. Illinois. They are Robert N. Krimmel. son of Mrs. Clyde K. Thon, 455 Kings highway. Lawrence J. McDonald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence H. McDonald. 2311 22nd street. Jack C. Springstead, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Springstead, 821 Plum street, and William J Breen, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G Breen. 23509 West River road. Grosse lie. When their recruit training is completed, these men will receive a period of leave. Walter Evich. Bondie, Jr., whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Royal J. Bondie. Sr., live at 487 Emmons boulevard. Wyandotte, has arrived at Camp Philadelphia, in the As sembly Area Command, with a Gen eral Hospital which is now being processed for direct redeployment to the Pacifi I '. Pfc. Bondie has been overseas for five months. The unit of which he is a mem ber sailed from Boston in Novem ber. 1944. arriving in Scotland and moving to stations in England be fore reaching France New Years Eve. Moving up. the unit served two field Armies during its tour of ac tive operations in the ETO. Before he entered the service February 18. 1943. Pfc. Bondie was a Laboratory Technician for Wer ner G. Smith Company here. Roberts On Okinawa Pfc. Richard E. Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Roberts. 13182 Mercier, Old Homestead, is serving on Okinawa with General Stifcvells Tenth Army. He has recently been awarded an arrow head and a bronze star for the invasion of Okinawa. He also wears a battle star for the battle of Leyte on his Asiatic-Pacific ribbon and has a good conduct ribbon. Ice cream and a bath are the two things, next to home, that service men in the tropics want most, an Army poll disclosed.
