Bill On January 1, 1946 liberalized provisions of the amended G. I. Bill of Rights (Public Act 346) went in to effect. Some of the major chan ges are as follows: The bill eases the loan restric tions of the original measure, in creases the student subsistence rates and broadens the educational program, and provides larger bene fits for disabled veterans in voca tional rehabilitation work. To acquaint veterans with terms of the new GI bill of rights the Veterans Administration furnished a list of questions and answers as follows: Q. Do I have to go to school Im mediately after leaving the Army, to take advanage of the education a’ provisions? A. No. The time during which the course may be started was ex tended. by amendments, from two years to four years after discharge, o: up to four years after the end of the war, whichever is later. The time limit for completing the course is raised from seven to nine years after the end of war. Q. Is the cost of a course limited to SSOO per year? A. No. Short, intensive courses may be taken with the permissible cost figured on the basis of length of war service. A veteran Is enti tled to one course costing SSOO for each year of service and if he is eligible for several courses, all may be taken in one year. Q. May I receive subsistence pay ments while taking a correspond ence course? ✓ A. No. A veteran may take a correspondence course and its cost will be paid, but no subsistence. One-fourth of the elapsed time used in pursuing such a course is charged against the veteran’s per iod of eligibility. They are: Sass Sgt. Joseph F. Plocharczyk, 2602 Tenth street, and Cpl. Norbrt F. Michalski, 13184 Jo bin avenue. Activated in 1943, the 658th de parted for New Guinea in Septem ber of the same year and later par ticipated in the Bismarck Archi pelago campaign on New Britain. The 658th landed the assault troops of the veteran 40h Infantry Div ision in the D-Day landing at Lin gayen Gulf. Fram February to May 1945 elements of the 658th landed the assault troops of the 41st, 24th Americal and 40th Infantry Divi sions on twelve more enemy held beaches in the southern Philip pines. Fox Gets Electrocuted SAXONBURG, Pa. (U.R) Elton Grabe found one fox which wasn’t so foxy. The animal bit into an electrically charged wire during a rainstorm and was electrocuted. Q. How soon after the war's end do I nave to complete vocational training? I am a disabled veteran. A. The amended bill extends the time to nine years after war’s end. Pieviously it was six years. Q. I am a disabled veteran. What is my subsistence allowance while taking vocational rehabilitation work? A. Disabled veterans now will re ceive a minimum of $lO5 per month, if without dependents; slls with a dependent plus $lO for the first child, $7 for each additional child and sls for a dependent parent. If the veteran receives a lesser pen sion he will receive these amounts while in training. In no event will his pension be reduced when he en ters training. Q. May I obtain a real estate loan, and for how much? A. The Government will guaran tee a real estate loan for you, up to $4,000, compared with $2,000 under the original bill. The Government guarantees up to 50 per cent of the total loan against a veteran’s prop erty, but not to exceed $4,000. Q. May I obtain a loan for bus iness with the Government guar anteeing it? A. Yes, but the limit of the Gov ernment guarantee remains at $2,- 000 or 50 per cent. Ready For Discharge Lt. (j.g.) Robert L. Benjamin, 556 Cherry street, and Donald A.
