Crow ley, radio commentator, at Detroit Town Hall in the Fisher theater, Wednesday, January 30, at 11 a.m. Crowley broadcasts from the cap itol twice weekly under the title Your Washington Man” and his pungent comments on national af- Beatrice Sable Weds Flat Bock Man Thursday The marriage of a Down River couple occurred Thursday, January li, at 8 p.m, when Miss Beatrice Sable, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Dee Trenton, exchanged vows with Robert McComb, in the bride gloom’s home. He is the son of and Mrs. Kenneth McComb of Flat Rock. The Rev. Milton H. Bank of the Trenton Methodist church read the service. A long sleeved satin bodiced gown with full net skirt ending in a short tram was worn by the bride. Her fingertip veil fell from a Dutch style cap trimmed with seed pearls and she carried white carnations. Her sister. Mrs. Lsster 'Mix, as matron of nonor, was attired in blue taffeta, blue flowered head piece and carried a corsage of f)ink carnations. Roger McComb, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man. Twenty-six guests attended the reception at the bridegroom's home. The newlyweds will live on Arse nal road, Flat Rock, where the bridegroom owns a gas station. CLUB LEARNS HOW TO MAKE HOOKED RUGS A native New' Englander, Mrs. William Hanford, who discussed hooked rugs at the Tuesday Study club meeting this w’eek, pointed out that they are in a class with orien tal rugs, often selling for $l5O to S2OO, in the scatter rug size. In New England everyone makes rugs, she said, and rug shows are common. The first hooked rugs date from 1066 in Scandinavia, she added. The rugs are made from cast offs and moth-eaten wool and good sources of material are rummage sales and auctions. The speaker pointed out that rugs made of rags are more valu able than those made from yarn. She gave a demonstration on hooking the rugs and illustrated everything with samples, showing many rugs in various stages of com pletion. Mrs. Hanford conducts classes in Detroit. Mi's. Ralph Keller was program chairman for the day. REPUBLICAN WOMEN HEAR TALK ON MICHIGAN SURVEY Edward C. The mass was celebrated by the Rev. Fr. George W. Pare. Donald is the son of Mrs. John Corp. John Murray, Buzzard's Bay, Mass. A gown of ivory sfetin was chosen bv the bride. The skirt extended into a long train and the neckline v;as a modified sweetheart style. She was attended by her hus band's sister, Helen Murray, Buz zard's Bay, who wore white lace and marquisette and carried blue iris. The bridesmaids, Susan Mon tague, Flint, Priscilla Smith and Nancy Sawyer. Grosse lie, and En sign Barbara Nolan, who flew here from Washington, wore identical gowns fashioned with fitted taffe ta bodices and bouffant skirts of marquisette. Mrs. Murray is a 1944 graduate oi the Uriversity of Michigan where her husband is enrolling in an engineering course. They plan to establish a home in Ann Arbor. MARINE CORPS AUXILIARY CHANGES MEETING DATES The Down River Marine Corps League auxiliary has decided to change its meetings to the first and third Mondays of the month, with business reigning at the first meet ing and a social time planned for the second meeting. The next meeting will be held February 4 at 8 p. m. in the Marine home. Ninth and Vinewood, Wyan dotte. Born in Chicago he began play ing the violin at 7 and later his principal teachers were Chiti, the famous Florentine master, Buitrago in New York, and Lefort in Paris. When he graduated from the Bo logna Conservatory of Music at 14 he received the highest honors ever accorded anyone since Mozart. He made his professional debut in Paris and his American debut was made at Carnegie Hall. Spalding has composed over 60 violin compositions, 25 piano num bers. 30 songs, four chamber music quartets, four orchestral composi tions and endless transcriptions and arrangements. “America’s Violinist” believes that the means for making people hear fine music are available and that they are ready for it. Calif., where they visited their son and brother, Peter, who is stationed there with the navy.
