The two points were sufficient to nullify a 39-38 Comet lead. St. Pat’s captured the District award in 1939 and repeated in 1940 but were stopped in the Ypal Re gional* both times In '4l they took top honors in Division. District and Regional playoffs only to drop out of con tention for the State champion ship in the last game of the semi finala. Smith won 28-22. > Monsanto and News-Herald were blasted out of Recreation play-off competition Tuesday night before over 400 fans gathered at Mt. Car mel gym. Allen Park eliminated News- Herald from the Class “A” ranks 52 to 42 and Eureka Auto Supply set down Monsanto, Class “B”, 38-21 In the playoff semi-final twin bill. I Paced by Young and De Luca, duet that accounted for 21 points between them, the Park quintet walked off with Tuesday’s triumph by scoring 23 points in the second half as against 18 for the losers. Allen Park led at the half, 29-24. Melantonl accounted for 10 points to pace News-Herald, one better than Angelloci and Fawks. Eureka Auto’s Murphy led his team-mates to a 38-21 triumph by scoring 13 points. Monsanto lost ground from the game’s beginning and never were able to recover a nine-point deficit at the half. Eure ka Auto counted 20 points in the last session while the best Monsan to could do was 12. Allen Park faces undefeated j Coca-Cola in the finals tonight at Mt. Carmel, outcome of which will decide winner of the Recre ation medals. Eureka Auto and V.F.W. battle it out for top hon ! ors in Class ‘*B” play in a pre liminary contest slated to start at 7:30.
