Funeral services for the lato Mrs. Loren F. Kay, who jiassed away it hcr home on' Third Street late Sat urday afternoon after a lingering ill ness of several months, were held in St. Mary's Catholic church at 9 o'clo'ck this morning, Rv. Fr. J. H. M. Bastien ofticiating. Interment was in the Kay lot in the Catholic ceme tery. Brief and impressive services at the home attender! by a large circlc of immediate and mourning friends, before removing the remains to the church, marked the passing of one of God's noble womcn from the circlc and tho community in which she had resided nearly 45 years. Mrs Kay was born in County of Cork. Irelànd, May 1!), 1845. Hcr maiden name was Johanna Hurley. She carne to this country when 11 years of age and made her home with ìier cousin, the late John Mitchell of Salem-Derby. She was married lo I oren F. Kay, February 10. 18,17, and they resided in Bath. N. IL, wbero Mr Kay was in business until 1S7G. In that'year they established a hom in Newport where she continued to icside until the family circlc was broken by the inevitablo cali to he" final reward. Tho own ers of the prohibited bevcrage, hoy ever, were not apprehended. Two men, who bought the liquor in Sherbrooke, carried the stuir as far as Beebc on the traiti. At this junc ture of their trip they got olf and hired a team to drive to Newport. Of ficers here were "tippcd" that the, smugglers wcre coming this way and two men were dispatched to the sta tion to await their arrivai. A search was made of nearly every suit case end travcling bag on the platform be fore the suiteases were found contain ing the whickey. The men, it was said, were travcling to Haverhill, Mass. They kept under cover, how ever when the search was made.
