District Meeting At tracts Many Visit ors to Anadarko HIGH OFFICERS HERE Interesting Program with Enter tainment Proposed for the Visitors Owing to the fact that many of the delegates and grand officers were un able reach the city until the noon trains Thursday the district meeting of the third Pythian district was not called to order during the forenoon as had been arranged on the program. The delegates began coming Wednes day evening, many of them arriving on the afternoon trains, but the larg er number of them did not arrive un til Thursday morning, when the grand officers of the state also arrived. The incoming delegates and the grand officers were mot at the trains by the local reception committeo and escorted to the hotels and other places of entertainment prepared for them, and by noon the city was filled. Del egates are present from all of the seventy lodges in the district, while with the visiting lodgcmen and grand officers the attendance will probably reach over two hundred before the close of the two days' session. Thursday afternoon was taken up with the exemplificaton of the secret work in the first and second degrees and other business pertaining to the work of the order in tlio district, 'Ihis evening there will ue an open meeting to which the public is in vited, the meeting to begin at 8:30 o'clock. Prior to the meeting tho visiting delegates and supreme officers will bo entertained at the Princess theatre with program especially a ranged for the occasion. Friday afternoon will bo devoted to general love feast' or social touching of elbows," to bo participated in by all of the visitors. Why He Never SpoKe. Arns was tried before Police Judge Franz Wednesday afternoon on a charge of intoxication and fined $25 and costs. Arns wns arrested n fiw nights ago and because of the dilapi dated and tumble down condition of tho city lock up objected to being wviiuuiai in iiiu Biiuiitiu uuu iiiiui ui Police Cooley placed him in the county jail. Later he gave bond for his ap pearance Judge Franz accepting a check for tho amount of the cash bond required. A short time after accepting the check the judge was notified by tho bank that payment of tho check had been stopped, whereupon the Judge caused a warrant to issue for Arns and ho was brought before the court. He then gave tho regular bond in tho sum of $100 for his uppoareancc, and when the case was called for trial Wed nesday afternoon his attorney made a motion for a change of judge. Judge Franz overruled the motion and after hearing the evidence assessed the fine as stated above. It is understood that Mr. Arns threatens to bring suit against the city because he was forced to spend part of the night of his ar rest in tho city lock up before ho was taken to the county jail, he claiming that the city jail is an unfit place in which to place a prisoner. COMMISSIONERS Adjoum Thursday After Trans acting Important Work onty commissioners who have been in session during tho week, com pleted their work and adjourned this afternoon, after having transacted a large amount of work. Tho principal matter of general public interest was the letting cf the contract for tho construction of tho Carnegie, Apache and Cyril bridges These bridges will be of vast benefit to the farmers of the county and the money expended on them will be money well spent. In the item in Wednesday's daily refer rin to the letting of the contracts a typographical error mako tho paper l,ut tho c09t of the Cyril bridge at $2,800 whereas it should have been $ 2.0S0. Tho proposi tion for tho construction of tho dam across tho Washita river, giving tho city cheap and abundant power not only for its water works ond electric light plants but nlso for all the man ufacturing interests that may bo in duced to locate hero lias now taken definite form, nnd judging from tho current comment there uro but very few in the city who are not heartily in favor of tho proposition and who will not only vote for tho proposed bond issue but who will also work for tho success of tho undertaking. This being accomplished tho growth of tho city is assured. Then, tno coming year promises to be nn nctivo ono in many ways. There now seems to bo no question but that tho Rock Island railroad will build its much needed new passenger depot within tho next few months. Tho Odd Follows are preparing to build a good building on their lot near tho Bryan hotol, while there aro strong probabilities that another hotel building is a thing of the near future. Several now business houses aro contemplated, some of them to tako tho place of framo structures now (standing on the sites, whilo tho build ing of tho now high school bunding and tho enlargement of the present school building will add to tho gen eral activity along the building line. In addition to these many new resi dences will bo built during tho year and when 1909 is ushered in Anadarko will have taken a long stride towards tho "Greater Anadarko" all hope for. i m Eastern Star Course The second number In the Eastern Star lecture course will bo given on Tuesday evening Dec. 15 in the Die trich opera house, the attraction being tho Chicago Ladies Orchestra. Hold ers of season tickets may secure their scats at Stephenson's drug store where general admission tickets may also be secured. Tho single ad mission for the evening will be 25 and 50 cents. A matinee will be given a 4 :15 o'clock for which tho ad msBion will bo 10 and 25 cents. The Chicago Ladies Orchestra is an ex cellent musical organizalon and will bo the best attraction of its kind to be seen in this city this season.
