HOOD RlVEKQLAClERjTHURflDAY, NOVEIIBEE S2,U906 MRS. A. C. SCOTT. PmlieM f th Okltktat F4r- lira. A. C. Bcott of Stillwater la ona of the moat energetic and public spir ited women in the club circles of Okla fcoma, and she la deeply Interested la all movements for the welfare of ber sex and the betterment of conditions that surround child life. The women's clubs have undoubtedly been a prominent factor In making the new state what It Is at the present time and will continue to be an Important factor In Its future greatness. Mrs. Scott Is the president of the State feder ation, being the third In the line of suc cession, the late Mrs. Selwy n Douglus of Oklahoma City and Mrs. J. C. Eoberts of Enid, Okla., having pre ceded her. Mrs. Bcott bas done excellent work In continuing the efforts of ber prede- and Inaugurating new werk. : MBS. A. tt SCOTT. ' Since she became president the legisla ture baa passed a bill providing for the care and education of child criminals apart from older prisoners, aa annual appropriation of $3,000 seeming the necessary teachers and buildings. The clubs of the new state are willing to follow the line of work laid down by the General federation and have po de sire for the ballot, simply asking that they be allowed to better the conditions under which they live. St Louis Globe Democrat Tralalaar a Babjr. 1 Begin training him as soon as be Is - born. Establish at once regular hours for bis feeding and sleeping. For the first four weeks feed blm every two hours between 0 a. m. end 0 p. m., once at 10 p. m. and once at 2 a. m. After a month be should be fed every two and a bait hours between 0 a. in. and 6:80 p. m., with two night feedings as before. When he Is two mouths old be presumably requires stronger food and more of it and from that time on he needs to be fed only every three hours from 0 a. n. to 0 p. m., with an addl tlonal feeding at 10 p. m. Btlck to this system though the heav ens fall. A large amount Of the fret fulness and moaning of Infanta Is duo to stomach disorders brought on by feedings at Irregular Intervals and In Irregular quantities. Once thoroughly established, the system will be found to work admirably. Go Into the Sloane Maternity hospital In New York city, where It la In vogue, and you will see scores of newly born Infants wake up like clockwork at the hours mentioned, and where alienee had reigned there will be a terrible rumpus until food Is forthcoming. If your baby, however, should continue to sleep when feeding time comes round, don't besltato to arouse blm. Keep him strictly to busi ness during bis meal, but If at any ttmo be shows a disposition to top short of the customary allowance, let blm. Babies have rights. Their little "tummies" know better than you when they need a restFrank Barkley Copley, in "Give the Baby a Chance," In Outing Magazine. ; Waste la Preparing Veetbl. In preparing vegetables fpr the table there Is almost always a larger or smaller loss due to tuodlble matter, skins, roots, seeds, etc., and also a wast of good material, which Is caused by careless paring, all the losses being grouped together In reporting analysis under the name "refuse." The amount of refuse varies greatly In different vegetables, as shown by a large number of analyses of American food materials. Tha amouut may be very small (7 per cent) la such vege tables as string beans; medium (10 per cent) In such vegetables as onions, cabbage, leeks, lettuce, cucumbers, or high (50 per cent) In such vegetables as beans In pod, pumpkins and squash. In, preparing vegetables for the table the careful cook will remove the Inedible portions and will see to It that the total amount of refuse Is as small as Is consistent with pood qual ity. Thin paring of potatoes and other vegetables Is an economy which Is Worth while to practice and Is on easy way of decreasing useless loss. The Girl Who Entertain Well. Not one man In ten thousand Is proof against the fascinations of the girl who ' can play such music as he can under stand and enjoy. Even the man whe can and does understand the triumph! of great composers rendered by a sym pathetic hand likes to hear simple melo dies played by some girl who enters In to the spirit of them. Ho likes to rest mind and body and let his spirit soar - upon the wings of music into a world of sentiment and sweet sound. The girl who Is artistic bos the least chance of charming ber men friends, but few of them fall to enjoy her pictures and ber little ornamental kulckknacks, pro vided she does not give them the latter, and they think ber wonderfully clever. The girl who entertains well, however, If she la really sympathetic In spirit captivates all hearts. Every man loves to be entertained, and the. wo man, who suidflrstapfr.ftfty.fa.gff fl, least apparent enrorris qwtea popu lar as the singer and abe who can dis course divinely upon Instruments, both keyed and stringed. A Sweat Laaah. A woman has no natural gift more bewitching than a sweet laugh. It is like the souud of flute en the water, snd the heart that bears it feels ss If bathed In the cool, exhilarating spring. Sometimes it conies In the midst of care or sorrow or Irksome business, ringing through the room like a silver bell, with power to scare swsy the evil spirits of the mind. How much Is debtor to that sweet laugb! It turns prose to poetry; It flings showers of sunshine over the darkness of the wood In which weary feet are travel ing; it touches with light even tired sleep, which Is no more the Image of death, but is consumed with dreams that are the shadows of immortality. Honruid Drtn Shield. To make an Inexpensive dress ahield, purchase about one-quarter of a yard of lightweight rubber sheeting and one roll of narrow tape. Tear up an old shield for the pattern and fell together the seam In the middle and bind the edges with tape. About three pairs of shields ran be made from the one quarter yard at the cost of about 18 cents per pair, thereby saving from 15 to 20 cents per pair, and I find that tbey are more durable than the bought ones. Philadelphia Press. Mattoa Fat. Few people consider mutton fat good eating, yet It Is a mistake to choose lean mutton, because the absence of fat shows poorly fed stock. The fat should be white, not yellow, and the meat should be firm and dry. As a general rule, all meat should be Arm, not flabby. But, while In choosing mutton one should look for a piece of which the lean part is dark colored, in the case of lamb and veal the meat cannot be too white. Teata. A lady is soft of speech and pleas ant In manner. A ludy always bas perfect control of herself, keeps her engagements and Is not oblivious of her liabilities. She has the courage of ber convictions. If there be an occasion for self denial, she Is capable of It She cannot help having nerves, ut she Will not make a display of them to the discomfort of others. SiKii of CareleHuraa. It is disillusioning to a degree to see an otherwise lovely ami dainty woman with neglected linger nails, soiled col lar band or some other sign of care lessness. One cannot help but feel that these are Indications of greater shortcomings, and If a woman does not care to create such an Impression It were well for her to look to ber nails and collar bands. A Shirt Walat Hint. A satisfactory way of fastening down a shirt waist that has a tendency toward pulling up from the belt Is to put It on before you put on your petti coat. I'ln the ends of the shirt waist aecurely to the corset When the skirts are put on, the waist Is drawn In tight and smooth, and there Is no chance of Its working loose and becoming un sightly looking. Coffee. No matter of how good a quality your coffee or tea Is it will be ruined If the water used In making It bas boiled more than once. Do uot let the water boll more than three or four minutes. The natural properties of the water escape by evaporation, leaving behind an Insipid compound that Is ruinous to the best coffee. Lip Olatmeat. A homemade Up ointment: Is this: One and one-fourth ounces of sper maceti, one ounce of white wux, four ounces of oil of sweet aliuouds, three drams of alkanet root. Mult all In a water bath, let nearly cool and. add four drama of balsam of Peru, twenty drops of oil of cloves, and two drops of essence of ambergris. (imu Ranee Kconoray. Economy Is a large consideration In the use of the slmmerer of your gas range. A gas man, In a city where gas Is f 1.50 a thousand, assures me the slmmerer burned at ordinary simmer ing height for a working day of ten hours would consume about 0 cents' worth of gas. Philadelphia Inquirer. Not fur your dealer's euke, nor for Bciisiiii'b sake but (r your own sake got some of Benson's Fanny new I ii it aloes. They will makH yu sinHe. A Lazy Liver ' May bo only a tired liver, or a starved livor. It would be a stupid as well as savage, thing to beat a weary or starved man because ho lugged in his work. So In treating the lagging, torpid liver It is a great mlstako to lash It with strong drastic drugs. A torpid liver is but an Indication of an ill-nourished, enfeebled body whose organs are weary with over work. Start with the stomach and allied organs of digestion and nutrition. Put them In working order and see how quickly your liver will become active. Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery has made many marvelous cures of "liver trouble " by Its wonderful control of the organs of digestion and nutrition. It re stores the normal activity of the stomach, increases tho secretions of the blood-making glands, cleanses the system from poi sonous accumulations, and so relieves the liver of the burdens Imposed upou It by the defection of other organ.
