While 'Hood Kiver has not yet reached the point where it exports hay, that crop is becoming quite a large as well as profitable part id' the valleys pro ducts. Many of the fruit growers have small plots on which they can raise their own hay, but most of them have to depend upon others to raise their horse feed. The increase in the hay crop has caused a corresponding increase in the number of bailing outfits to handle the hay. Blowers Bros., Shave recently sold two South wick hay presses to ranchers who are operating them in the valley. One of the presses was purchased by ('. ('. AUTOISTS JOIN STATE ASSOCIATION Local automobile owners are begin ning to take considerable interest in the slate organization and during the past few days number have? become members of the Oregon State Auto mobile Association. The principal object of this society, of which ('apt. Charles P. McCan is the vice presi dent, for Hood Uner county, is to do all in its power to further the good roads movement, Among the new members are J. R, Nunaniaker, (!. V. Kwdards, ('. !'. Gilbert, Leslie Butler, W. T. Sleddon, .1. ll. Hellbronner, Devlin & Kirebaugh, C. K. Hone, Charles Hull, and 1. S. Davidson. The requirements for membership are to own an automobile, pay a nom inal entrance fee, dues of Till cents a month and work in the interests of good t oads. There had been some talk of hating road signs in the Hood Kiver allev, hut Capt. McCan says that he will endeavor to have all the money which the auto people can raise expended on good roads, where it is most needed. Until there is an automobile road from Portland l Hood Kiver there will not be manv strange drivers in l he valley who will need the guidance of signs, which will necessarily be expensive to ho in keeping with the Hood Kiver valley setting, and it is the general belief that the big effort should be made for a road from Portland and then the signs will come. Another point is that rather than have the countv court provide signs, it would bo holler for the county to spend all it money in improving the county roads as there is no point to having a road sign to a mudhole. One of the real values of good roads which auto mobile owners will appreciate is that fact Hood Kiver tire dealers will he able to get tin' guarantees from the manufacturers Jwhen It is known that the roads are improved.
