Christmas Vacation Begins Tomorrow.
The Christmas vacation of the city
schools will begin tomorrow and will
continue until Tuesday, January 2.
During the hloidays the School Board
has decided to make repairs to the fur
nace of the Pleasant View school on
the Heights. An improved ventilating
apparatus will also be installed in the
building. It will thus be provided with
ample fresh air and made as healthful
as possible.
Children Rush for Apples.
On school children's uay at the big
St. Paul land show last week, when
thousands of youngsters viewed the
exhibits. Each pupil was promised an
apple by the management, and after
12,000 had been given away, exhaust
ing the suppy, the insistent youngsters
rushed the distributors and only the
effective work of a squad of policemen
and the officials of the show prevent
ed a riot.

Shriners Elect Officers.
Strong but friendly rivalry arose last
week among the Shriners of Al Kader
Temple in the contest for the office of
delegates to the Imperial Council re
union at Los Angeles next May, says
the Portland Telegram. Those chosen
are: George V. Kobertson, Ft. D. Can
non, W. C. Bristol and William Davis.
The following-named nobles were
elected to serve the temple for the
ensuing year: Illustrious potentate,
W. C. Bristol: chief rabban, U. C.
Tomasini ; assistant rabban, Harvey
Beckwith; high priest and prophet,
George W. Stapleton; Oriental guide,
W. E. Grace; treasurer, W. A. Cleland
(re-elected); recorder, B. G. White

illustrious" potentate, installed the
newly-elected officers. Illustrious Po
tentate Bristol announced that pending
the adoption or rejection of the new
bylaws, he will not choose appointive
ollicers, as adoption will mean a differ
ence in their number and duties.
