LUMBER MILLS RESUME OPERATIONS After having been closed down since July 2, the Stanley-Smith lumber mill and luKgmg camp at Green Point again resumed operations Monday. The most of the workmen spent the Fourth and tha remainder of the holiday period in Portland and The Dalles. They began straying back to the camp Saturday evening and continued until late Sun day night. " The company has a large crew of men a work in the forests at the log ging camps, which are from four and a half to six miles back from the mill, to which the logs are brought by flume. At present the big lake in which the lo are floated contains sev eral million feet ahead for the big saw io work on. COMMERCIAL CLUB DISTRIBUTES FOLDERS The Hood River Commercial club is endeavoring to secure a large number of the Elks who will visit Portland next week and Is preparing to care for them, when they visit the valley of sp plea as many of them will do. Ten thousand small slips descriptive of the beautiful region with directions and a guide of a trip to the local orchards have been sent to Portland for distri bution. It is expected that , many of the visitors will take advantage of the op portunity of coming up on the Gatzert in the morning and remaining here for the trip around the valley, while the boat is going to The Dalles. . Experiment Station Appreciated Sherman county farmers have come to appreciate their experiment farm, located at Moro. Many at first doubted its utility but such yaluable help has been given in conducting inquiries into better methods of agriculture that they are now thoroughly interested. A re cent farmers' day brought hundreds of visitors to the station.
