When he married Marguerite Lawler Branyen in 1939, he said he was doing so to achieve “men tal peace, without which I cannot discharge my duties as ruler.” Now he wants a divorce for the same reason. He was inducted into the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington, in Octo ber. 1942. Since his induction, he has served at Maxwell Field, Ala bama, and Basic Flying School, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. His brother, Lieutenant Robert Diez, is a flying officer, having graduated from the Tuskegee Army Flying School. July 2nd Set For The Execution Os Nazi Aid DETROIT, June s—Max Steph an, convicted traitor, today was sentenced to hang by Federal Judge Arthur J. Tuttle on Friday July 2. Stephan was convicted of giv ing aid to Hans Peter Krug, Nazi flier and escaped Canadian pris oner. Standing alone in court, Steph an kept his head bowed, and his face shielded by a handkerchief. At intervals his sobs could be heard through the packed court room. 1 .
