At present, there is emergency j ' ferry service to Hatteras from I Englehard on the mainland, and between Avon and the village of Hatteras. Other toll-free State fer- ■ I ries linking Hatteras with Ocra- ! i coke Island to the south and the j | Nags Head area to the north via I 1 Oregon Inlet are on emergency i schedules until further notice. 1 Tolls have been temporarily sus pended on the State ferry be tween the village of Ocracoke and Atlantic, on the mainland. North of Hatteras Island, Outer Banks highways linked to the mainland by big bridges are open for travel to Roanoke Island, Ore gon Inlet and the beach resorts 1 of Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. The highway on I Ocracoke, which sustained little I storm damage, is also open, and most sections of the Hatteras High way that were damaged have been repaired.
