Praver was offered by the Rev. Andrew Gillis of Montpolier, after which Judge W. E. Barney of Barre was elected chairman to preside at tho Convention and W. W. Lapoint of Barre was elected secretary. The reading of the roll was dispensed with and the regular business of nomin ating candidates for the county ollices proceeded. For the first Senator there was no contest and C. C. Putnam of Middlesex was unanimously nominated. For second Senator tho names of two candidates were presented, E. W. Slay- ton of Warren and 1.. Bart I ross ot Montpclier. One hundred and fifty-five vntns were east, of which Slavton had 10G and Cross 49. The former was therefore nominated, and upon niotiou of lion. II. A. Huso of Montpclier, was declared unanimous. The assistant judges were nominated with no opposition and were Mark Mears of Marsh field and C. D. Edgerton of Xorthfield. Tho next office was tho Judge of Probate and to this Hiram Carlton was unanimously nominated. Tho next on the program was the event in which all Barre people were officially interested, namely the nomina tion of Stale's Attorney. Richard A. Hoar was nominated by W. A. Boycc and seconded by nearly every delega tinn In Urn count v. There was not a dissenting voice and he was therefore nominated. The matter of Sheriff was next taken up and two candidates were presented O. It. Collins of Cabot andC. C. U raves of Waterbury. 132 votes were east out of which Graves, had 108 and Collins 44. C. C. Glares will therefore be our next Sheriff. Committee on resolutions as elected were Z. S. Stanton, of Hoxbury ; W. A. He says the magnificent bravery ihown by the men under Col. Wood in last Friday's battle testified to his cour age and skill as well as to to the courage and determination of his officers. Wheeler says, -'I recommend him for tho consideration of tho government. All I said of him applies also to Lieut. Colonel Kooscvelt. Tho casualties in the engagement were 1G killed and 52 wounded.
