A. 0., es- ' tablishes a new world’s record last week, tossing Ihe 24-pound shot 39 feet 3 1-4 inches. The real star of Ihe annual senior in door championships of the Ama- j teur Athletic Union, held in Mad- j ison Square Garden, was Abel H. j Kiviat, of tin’ lrish-Ameriean J Athletic Club, who won the 000 j and 1,000 yard runs. j In romping away with Ihe big middle distance events, Kiviat made a new American record in the 1,000 yard run of 2:15 4-5, : shortening his own record of two1 years’ standing by Iwo-lifths of a second. An hour later he led “Ted” Meredith, Ihe Olympic win ner. by inches in the 000 yard run. i with Tom Halpin. of Boston, a close third. McDonald exceeded his own world’s record by live inches when i he smashed the mark for 25 pouml stud [ml. The former mark was made at Celtic park outdoors 18 months ago. Kolehmainen, Ihe Finnish long j distance runner, dropped out of Ihe two mile race, after tailing the Held of seven runners for a little over a mile. Apparently he was unable to warm up in Ihe dis tance, which is shorter than lie fancied. Harry Smith, the ten-mile na tional champion, went cold, also a lap ahead of the Finn, and drop ped out. William J. Kramer, the former cross country champion, led the Held in the ten mile event and was never headed. The American indoor records were equalled in the 70-yard hur dle by James 1. Wendell, of Wes leyan, and Howard P. Drew, the negro sprinter from, Springfield. Mass., in the 75-yard dash. A penalty of three yards for breaking in the final of the 300 yard run failed to defeat Fred Burns, of Boston, who won and came within one-fifth of a sec ond of the American record of 33 seconds. • ( —_i__ Marie Corelli In Court.
