Jerry Learning, who recently ^arrived in Juneau from McCarthy on the Cliisana trail says that en r ute to the alleged diggings is not a pleasure boulevard. After losing a horse in the quagmires near (ilacier creek lie turned back. lie has been in every camp from Ketchikan to Point. Harrow, including Dawson and Nome and was over the awful slough of '97 between Skagway and Bennett. It is his belief that the trail from McCarthy has them all beaten to a frazzle. The prospects so far reported on the Chisana including the working claims Mr. Learning says are almost identical with the Squirrel river diggings in the Ko liurk section above Seward penin sula. The only pay that has been found on Squirrel river was in the one spot and it, was good. But there were only two or three claims that produced anything.
