for the two richest stakes, the Mer
chants and Manufacturers' and Cham
ber of Commerce is not yet completed,
enough material has been assured to
warrant the prediction that the time
made in these events will exceed any
thing in former years. The".M. & M."
is set down for Tuesday and tho com
panion contest for tho pacers is the
feature of Wednesday. Special rail
way rates have been granted so that
tickets can be purchased on Monday
good up to July 20, enabling persons
from a distance to see three days of
brilliant sport and get the benefit of
the one-fare excursion.
In order to supply nothing but tho
bent racing, the proposed match be
tween Joe Patchen and John K. (Sen
try has been cancelled. The long
spell of wet weather in the East pre
vented (Sentry from getting the fast
work necessary to meet &uch a foe as
the Chicago whirlwind. Instead of
this a freo for all contest for the
crack trotters Ins been substituted.
This event will be to road wagon,
and the wealthy owners of such cracks
as Grace Hastings, Cephus, Kentucky
1'nion, Lilly Young and Emma Otl'utt
have been invited to bring tin ir livers
to Detroit for the first day of the Jiluo
Kilibon meeting. To encourage these
amateur reinsnien a valuable silver
cup will be given to the winner in ad
dition to the stake inonev.

The creamery at Armada, owned and

ground last week. There was no in
surance. No demonstration took place in 1'ort
Huron u the 4th of July with the ex
ception of a few private fireworks in

Four-vear-old (irace Drennon, of
Klliott, was badlv burned last week,
by falling forward from her chair upon
the hot Move.
C. S. Ninis, of Sand Ileach, is the new
president of the Commercial and Sav
ings P.ank at St. Clair in placo of II. II.

The president of Imlay City village
has discovered that a ioker room is
being operated in the village. The
cases discovered will be prosecuted.
The Woodman Light Infantry, of
Port Huron, numbering about 00 men,
have been in camp at Lexington dur
ing the past week, for their summer
outing.
John W. Porter is the president of
the new Capac Saving's Hank, Vice-
president Kichard Shutl, It. Morrison,
cashier and Ilussell N. Wade, assistant
cashier.
The farm residenco of Henry Lintz,
near Lexington, was struck by light
ning last week and was completely
wrecked. The bolt struck Mr. Lintz's
daughter injuring her side and tear
ing one shoe on.
Sanilac Centre band boys have a new
bandwagon. The other night parties
not known entered the barn where it
was kept, ami daubed black paint all
over it. hoever it was should receive
a coat of paint himself.
Mrs. K. A. Hulett, of Armada, put
some gasoline in her tioiier wlnio wash
ing clothes. The stuff exploded and
enveloped her in .llames. She had
presence of mind enough to wrap her
self in a bed quilt, hut she was badly
burned.
A young man by tho name of Lash
brooks living in Wales, will be tried in
the circuit court on the charge of steal
ing bicycles. He purchased live bicy
cles and a buggy in 1'ort Huron, pay
ing :" down on each. Afterwards he
sold the outfit and left for Detroit.
All of the stock-. 2.'),000 for tho
new bank at Lenox has been subscrib
ed and is held entirely by Macomb
and St. Clair county parties. A meet
ing of the shareholders will be held in
a few days to complete the organiza
tion, elect officers, etc. It is proposed
to call the new institution the .Macomb
County Savings Hank.
