Whether it was taken from his pocket or he dropped it, he does not know. We sympathize with him in his hard luck. Miss Rertha McRae, of Sharpsyille, who a few years ago attended school in Yale, and will be well remembered, and who has since been a successful teacher, was married June 29th, in Rrown City, to Mr. James Morris. We extend congratulations to the happy couple. Rev. M. R. Saigeon will preach a ser mon to the Loyal Orange Radge of this village at the M. 1 church next Sunday at 2 o'clock p. m. Rev. Wheel ock, of Peck, is also expected to de liyer an address. The lodges from Reck and Spring Hill and also the Ladies Lodge from Spring Hill will bo present and take part. A number of friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Uallead last Monday evening, to celebrate Mrs. Hallead's forty-third birthday. After spending a pleasant eveninc, during which a dainty lunch was served, they repaired to their homes. Mrs. Uallead was the recipi ent of many beautiful and useful pres ents. This is the meaning and sentiment that is attached to the Cuban Hag. It has a single star set in a diamond field of blood, with live stripes leading to it. The live stripes represent the live states in the isle of Cuba. Rrockway township now owns a stone crusher and it will be only a short time before the roads will be No. 1. A subscription paper is being cir culated and nearly all of our citizens are donating either cash or work to wards putting the highway two miles north in a passable condition. This is a moye in the right direction and all should help it along. One of the visitors to Yale on the 4th was John McICellar from the township of Flynn. John's parents reside at Omard, and are only medium in size, but John has struck out on a gait of his own, and although only 11 years of age tips the scales at 1C9 lbs., several pounds ahead of either his father or mother. If he keeps on growing at the rate he is going, he will be a whale when he comes to manhood. The France-Rella Comedy Company finished a week's engagement in Vale Monday evening, July 4th. "Uncle Josh," the favorite comedy drama was fjiven that evening and a crowded louse listened to its rendition. Our townspeople are always pleased with this company's entertainments and give them a royal welcome every time they return. Tuesday morning they droye to Reck and will hold the boards at the opera house there for the bal ance of the week. The editor of a Kansas paper states that he picked up a Winchester rifle one day recently and started down the street to deliver the weapon to its own er. The delinquent subscribers, how ever got it into their heads that he was on the war path, and every one he met insisted on paying him what they were owing. One of them wiped out a debt of ten years' standing. On the editor's return to the office he found a load of hay, fifteen bushels of corn, ten bushels of peas, ten bushels of po tatoes, a load of wood and a barrel of turnips that had been brought in by delinquents. A stray swarm of bees dropped into tho village Saturday last and in the courso of their meanderings about town landed in Hiram Allen's back yard. The Ladies' Aid Society in connec tion with the Rnck Chapel, will meet at the home of Mrs. Martin Menerey, two miles west and one south of the Village, on next Wednesday afternoon, July 13th. All ladies interested in the cause, although not belonging to the society, are cordially invited to be pre sent. Died, at his home near Mt. Salem on Monday, July 4th, 1898, W. R.Lewis. aged 62 years. Ihe funeral was held at Rrockway, Rev. Wm. Coulter, offi ciating. Remains were interred in Elmwood cemetery on Wednesday. ueceased was a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Lothian and died from that dread disease, consumption. Mrs. Celia Lashbrooks, the 17-year-old daughter of John McLellan, of Omard, was arrested in Yale Thursday by Detective Shannon charged with putting Paris Green in some medicine at the home of Mr. Lashbrooks in Wales Centre. Her reason for doing this wa9 because she wanted to go to Peck July 4th and was refused. Detec tive Shannon took her to Port Huron Thursday night.
