The largo and beautiful farm resi dence owned by James Newell was laid in ashes on Saturday morning about three o'clock. Owing to the lire occur ring.at so late an hour at night or rath er so early in tho morning, the family and other occupants of tho house were in deep slumber, thus allowing a large portion of the roof to be consumed be fore awakening The cause of the lire is yet unknown but as there had been no fires in the house on Friday after six p. m., the case seems very myster ious. Mr. Newell was not heavily in sured, yet the amount received will aid greatly In erecting his new brick resi dence which is already begun.
