Up to the time of go ing to press we have beard of no one being shot. A law was passed by the last legisla ture raising the minimum age for teach ers from seventeen to eighteen years, and making the compulsory school age of children in the country between eight and fifteen, and in cities between seven and seventeen. Lightning struck a barn in New Jer sey, setting it on fire. Just as prepara tions were about to be made to extin guish the flames the lightning struck the barn a second time and put out the fire. Of all the strange antics of "Jersey lightning" this is about the strangest. Sandy Cameron and family bade their friends and relatives in Yale good bye Monday and started for their new home near Gladwin. Sandy has been working the Archie Williams farm north and east of here but found it a slow way to get ahead. He will moye onto his own farm. A meeting for men only has been projected and will be held in Yale in the near future. Arrangements are so far completed that we can say that Dr. W. II. Fulton is to deliver an address and other speakers will probably par ticipate, and matters will be considered of peculiar interest to men. Fuller particulars will be giyen later. Ed. McKinnon was buried at Mt. Sa lem on Wednesday of this week. Mr. McKinnon met with rather a sad death. He was standing near a well on a farm in the neighborhood of Bay City water ing a span of horses when he accident ally fell in and was drowned. He was a young man only about 23 years of age. Frank W. Smith and Guy Mulnyx have formed a co-partnership and are prepared to give their attention to well digging. If you haye any work of this kind to do get their prices. Frank has also had considerable experience as an auctioneer and will be pleased to nave any ana an who are thinking of nolding auction sales to call on him and get his terms. Notice his card in this issue. A damage suit was started by capias last week by James Rands, of Green wood, against Chris. Vogelei. of the same township. The injury done to lianas is piacea at $10,000.00 and is the result of a fight which took place on the highway on August 22. In his complaint Rands states that he was knocked down and jumped on by Vogelei. S. A. Graham appears for Rands. Rev. Sam Bettes is home aeain look ing well and hearty. He reports being in the building at the time the presi dent was shot, and was one of the first to get hold of the miscreant who did the shooting. If Sam could have been near enough to deliver a good right swing on the fellow's cranium just as ho pulled the gun, we will guarantee that he would have made a mighty poor eiioi. A very pleasant little party was held at the home of Mi9s Mollie Brown on Tuesday night. Mollie has had a very interesting class in Sunday school for the last few years, and now for an in definite time this relationship is going to bo severed , Mollie taking her depart ure on Saturday f Or Lansing where she will take a special course of study at the Stale Agricultural College. The young folks gathered as abovo stated and had a farewell party, ice cream and cake being served. Mollie was the recipient of a beautiful Morocco bound copy of the Bible from her claps, a token of their affection for their teacher. The Expositor was in error last week in stating that May Fitzgerald had gone to South Bend, Ind., to enter the Notre Dame convent. May has a natural talent for music and is now at St. Mary's Academy where she will finish her professional studies. Keith and family started on Wednesday for their new charge at Unionyille. Mr. and Mrs. Keith are very earnest and active workers and did much good during their short stay here. Everybody seemed to like them and it is with regret we see such good people go from us, but they are assur ed that the kindest and most sincere wishes of all go with them to their new field of labor and it is hoped that they may meet with peace, happiness and prosperity.' The School Board of District No. 1 held a meeting Wednesday eyening at which time Dick Ellar was appointed truant officer for the ensuing year. Complaints made against scholars for non-attendance or truancy will be looked after promptly. A case of wife-beating was indulged in by a drunken scalawag last Satur day. The authorities took him in charge and locked him in the village bastile until he became sober when ho was released. Names will be given to the public should such conduct occur again. A full and complete account of the shocking crime committed at Buffalo last Friday by Assassin Czulgoza may be found on the inside of the Exposi tor this week. It is unnecessary for us to make further comment only to say that the improved condition of the resident is yery pleasing to Yale's oyal citizens, all of whom hope and pray for his speedy recoyery. 8.
