Walter Knapp shipped a carload of
siock consisting of cattle, calves and
hojrs to the Uuffalo market Saturday
last.
City treasurer McKeith expects to
have the assessment roll in hia hands
by July 1st when he will commene col
lecting taxes.
The year old little sou of Mr. and
Mrs. James Shaw who has been sick
lor about a month, is somewhat im
proved but yet it is a very sick child.
Nicholas Owens has been suffering
with a stiff neck the past week caused
by some trouble in the back of his head.
It is impossible for him to rubber-neck.
The rains of the past week has help
ed the crops wonderfully. Vegetation
is making rapid strides and we look
for an abundant crop the coming har
vest. Elder .1. II. I'aton will preach in
Urick Chapel Sunday, June !i()th at 3
and 7:110 p. m. Subjects of importance
will be presented for your considera
tion. After all the work of raising funds
for a 4th of July celebration at Vale
the matter has been dropped and our
citizens will celebrate in their own
quiet way.
Wool is coming to market quite free

23,000 pounds this season.
Isaac Menerey's house one-half mile
west of Vale was struck by lightning
during the electrical storm last Friday.
Considerable damage was done, and al
though the family was in the house at
the time no one was injured.
liert Desmond, well known in Vale,
tiled a cross bill for a divorce from his
wife, Althea Desmond, lie charges
that she has run him in debt, does not
take care of her children, has been
guilty of extreme cruelty, etc. Mrs.
Desmond will be remembered as A I
thea (iark.
K. F. Fead, cashier of the First Na
tional Hank, has been a very sick man
the past week and his friends were
alarmed at his condition for a time.
The trouble was a stoppage of the
bowels. He is still confined to the
house but we are pleased to announce
that the doctors believe the danger is
over.
This week we publish the annual
financial statement of school district
No. 1, Urockway township. All inter
ested should read it carefully and be
come posted as to what has been done
with the school taxes collected. The
annual school meeting will be held in
the high room on Monday evening,
July 8th.
The ladies of the Presbyterian church
will give a supper on the church lawn,
weatlier permitting, if not, in the din
ing room next Tuesday nigh, July 2.
The public cordially invited. A good
supper will be served and ice cream
and cake will be sold during the even
ing. Watch for dodgers Tuesday morn
ing for menu and price.
Thos. Wharton raised a line large
barn on his farm near Melvin Tuesday
of this week. About 1U) men took
part in the work and the frame was
placed in tosition without an accident.
The barn Is iVtxU feet with two thresh
floors and stands on an eight foot stone
foundation. The ladies furnished a
hearty meal In the evening and all en
joyed the feast.
A novel baseball game is slated for
Tuesday of next week to come off at
Riverside Park. The farmers near by
here have challenged the business men
of Vale to play a friendly game for
nine little pigs and three barrels of su
gar. Vou may look for an interesting
time as the lineup is composed of
cracker-jack players and we expect the
score to be 3 and 'J in favor of Vale.
On Wednesday morning Prof. F. W.
Wliealou and family took their depart
ure for their new tield of labor at
Rochester, Mich-where Mr. Whe.ton
has secured the superintendency of the
iiuhlic seliools at a fine salary. While
Jr. and Mrs. Wheaton have only been
here a litlle over a year, yet they have
made a number of warm friends who
will regret to lose them from our midst.
We wish Mr. Wheaton much success in
his new position.
The Port Huron Herald has the fol
lowing to say about F.ruie liaxter who
is working in W. A. Williams store in
that place: "And while we're passing
down the list we must not forget liax
ter, who plays shortstop for the Chron
icle?, liaxter is one of those country
youths and nearly everyone who uomes
from the country is a good ball player
because they haven't much else to do
there, liaxter is one of the best ground
scoopera in the business and is really a
credit to the City League."
A meeting of the Uuslness Men's As
sociation of Vale was held Monday ev
ening to consider the advisability of
our city uniting with the business men
of Mayville, Marlette and Hrown City
in an excursion on the 'list of July to
some point on St. ('lair river or to De
troit. A committee consisting of Chas.
H. Palmer, J. 1. Rosenthal and J. C.
1 1 olden was appointed to canvass
the city and reMrt how the citizens
felt in regard to the matter. We be
lieve that every person who possibly
can should join in this outing and give
them h arty co-operation.
The IJ1S of the I esbyterlau church
had a social afternoon in the church on
Wednesday and got up a picnic .supper.
This was in honor of Mrs. A. K. l'ark
who with her family, left on Thursday
for their new home in Detroit. The
affair was to have been held in the
grove, but the cool, threatening weath
er prevented. However a good time
was had in the church parlor by about
40 mein tiers and guests. The ladies
are all sorry to lose Mrs. Park who lias
been an efficient and thorough worker
in the church. A silver meat fork was
presented her by the society.
A farewell party was tendered Miss
Lucy (Itley at the home of Rev. .and
Mrs. W, H. Coje Tuesday evening.
About thirty young iople were pre
sent to show the high esteem in which
this young lady is held by all with
whom she has Urn associated. Miss
I'ljey has been the efficient pianist at
the People's Temple for several months
past and as a remembrance her friend
In the Sunday School presented her
with a beautiful silver spoon neatly
engraved. Rev. Cole made the present
ation siK'ech. Amusements were pro
vided and refreshments were served
during the evening. Miss Utley left
with her parents Thursday for Stanton,
Mich.

A bright June sun looked down up
on at U-ast two scenes m 1 ale on 1 lies
day of this week around which the at
mosphere was pervaded with unusual
excitements and testal preparations
The day was a most beautiful one,
made to order lor happy hndes.
At 2:$! the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Thos. (J. llolden was prepared for the
quiet wedding of their daughter Kdith
today J5. Weymouth. Only immediate
relatives to the number of sixteen were
present. The bride, dressed beautifully
in silver silk and the groom in black,
came down the stairs into the parlor
and standing before a bank ot hand
some ferns were united in the bonds of
holy wedlock by Hev. Law'rason, the
lather giving his daughter away.
Congratulations and the wedding
supper were then in order after which
Mr. and Mrs. Weymouth were driven
to Avooa where they took the train.
Ihey will visit relatives and friends at
different points before returning to
ale where they will make their home,
Mrs. Weymouth is much esteemed
and has many lovely traits. Her hosts
of friends are glad that she remains
here. Mr. eyinouth is a partner in
the law linn of Drake Weymouth
and is a most promising young man.
We extend congratulations to the
voiing couple.
At 5:01) oclock 1. M., the-house, new
ly furnished throughout which will be
the home of the second couple to be
married this day, was thrown open to
about sixty guests, who were to w itness
the wedding of Khea V., daughter of
Mrs. Hattie llisev, and Rudolph An
dreae. With the strains of the wedding
march by Sybil llisey, of Sparta, the
party entered the Iront parlor and pro
ceeded to the back parlor, as follows
Itev. It. (). Lawrason followed by the
groom witii ins best man Arthur hrnst,
of Oscoda, the Single Dozen girls, two
by two coming next, all dressed in
white. They formed an aisle through
which passed the little Mower girl,
Dorothy llolden, dressed in pink, then
the Maid of Honor, Clara Andreae, in
white carrying pink roses followed by
the bride with her brother Yentry.
standing under a beautiful white wed
ding bell, entwined with sprays of smi
lax and with a background ot pink and
white blossoming geraniums, the bride
and groom were made one.
The bride was elegantly dressed in
white net over white silk and carried
white roses.
The color scheme of the decorations
was pink and white and the moms
looked very pretty.
After congratulations, the company
repaired to Mrs. llisey s home next
dour where refreshments were served

Commencement exercises were held
in the JSidlemau schoolhouse on Wed
nesday evening, dune I'li, at Hit) o'clock
at which time four schools were rep
resented, the llullock, Drennan, Sharps'
Corners and Ilidleman, with Nina Free
man, Verena Tohly, Krnest K. Jlaxter
and Marguerite Wordeii as teachers.
There were eight graduates. The mot

tions. A line program had been pre
pared and was excellently given. K.
T. Jtlackney, county commissioner of
schools, presented the diplomas.
