Karl Stevens, aged !'., of Memphis,
wus drowned off the battleship Iowa
near Washington, 1). C, recently. The
body was brought to Memphis for bur
ial. Stevens enlisted in the V. S. navy
two years ago.

Huron last Saturday struck a handcar
near Kmmett, destroying the car and
throwing the live section men a dis
tance of thirty feet. None of them
were seriously injured.
At a meeting of the stockholders of
the Michigan State Life Insurance Co.,
held at Detroit on Wednesday, W. P.
Davidson, president of the (lerman
American Savings Hank of Port Hu
ron, was elected a director.
Mrs. Chester Jilbert, of Port Huron,
was taken ill with a swelling around
her eye last week Friday. The doctor
could not stop the spread of the disease
which was pronounced erysipilas, and
in 41 hours Mrs. (iilberl died. She was
buried at her former home, Memphis.
