The annual meeting of the Imlay City Agricultural Society held recently was a very satisfactory one, inasmuch as the finMiicial affairs were in the best of shape, there being a nice balance in the treasury after all debts were paid. WAIiGfONNEVVS. Port Huron Postmaster to Resign and Become Collector of Customs. Washington, Jan. 31. The under ground opinion among some Michigan people in congress who have knowledge of matters is that the settlement of the Port Huron postollice row is more far reaching in its potentialities than is revealed on the surface. It appears that Postmaster Sherman's name is not to be sent to the senate for the new term as postmaster, but he is simply to hold on and draw a salary with the understanding that he will resign after a tune. The date of his resignation is not stated, but the opinion referred to is that he will do so in plenty of time to be able to receive the appointment as col lector of customs at Port Huron when Avery's term expires, two years from now. Further, it is pointed out that the pacification of Congressman Mc- Morran onlv concedes him one more term, and it is to be expected that Senator Smith will be ready to do what he can by and to aid some friend of this new seventh district combine to succeed .Mr, McMorran. The hint is even passed out that Lincoln Avery is not a man to lie down for. nothing and that it may be part of the slate to give him McMorran's place. Sherman has wanted to be col lector at Port Huron for 4 years, ac cording to political historians of Mien igan here.and Avery is now rich enougl to want some of the honors to be found in politics. ORANGES ARE DELICIOUS. James Clark, half brother of Dr. W (J. Wight, who visited here only a short time ago, upon returning to hisCalifor nia home sent the Dr. a crate of naval oranges grown on what is known as the Curry ranch m the Sacramento valley, about U0 miles Irom the city or Sacra mento. The oranges are selected fruit and were picked by the present owner of the ranch from trees set out by the doctor's brother, who worked on this ranch for nearly twenty years, after wards starting for himself. The crate of oranges reached here in splendid condition and the Dr. remem bered the editor with a liberal donation of what to us were the most delicious oranges we ever tasted. We have eaten a few in our day but never a one that could touch these in delicacy of llavor or sweetness of taste. The Curry ranch ships fruit to all parts of the United Slates and with such oranges as the ones we sampled thev will never want for a market. GORRUGAUD CULV ERT CO. RE-ORGANIZE.
