TALK OF GRAND JURY.
The Law and Order League of St.
Clair County which convened in the
First Uaptist church in Fort Huron last
week Thursday evening, decided un
animously that an effort be made to se
cure a grand jury in this county in order
that certain reports should be investiga
ted. A committee of three was appointed
to confer with the circuit court judges
and ask that a grand jury be called.
A resolution was made by Attorney
Hovey. one of the committee and it
was adopted afterdiscussion. "Resolved
by the members of the Law and Order
League of St. Clair County that the cir
cuit court judges of St. Clair county be
and they are hereby requested to sum
mon a grand jury to investigate the fol
lowing matters, among others: "First
The alleged attempt at subordination of
persons at Mt. Clemens with regard to
the witnesses in liquor cases. "Second -The
matter of sureties on liquor bonds,
who are alleged to have sworn falsely
regarding their financial responsibility."
In support 1" this resolution it is said
the grand jury would have power to In
vestigate uio're thoroughly and move
satisfactorily than the work could be
done in the ordinary way.
The rumors of violations which have
circulated for some time, should, if true,
be punished, if not true, they should be
at once effectually stopped. Whoever
is innocent will not be injured by an
investigation; if guilty they should be
exposed and punished.
As the work is in the interest of the
entire community, the expense of the
grand jury should be borne bythecom
munity as a whole.
Far more than enough to carry on
this investigation has been collected in
lines and is now in the county treasury.
At this meeting the following officers
were elected for the year:
President R. S. Campbell. Vice pres
identThomas Draper. Secretary
Rev. .T. L. Atcheson. Treasurer Rev.
(I. R. Crawford.
