Art Schlegelmelch and family moved this week to Flint where they will make their home for a time. Their many friends in Vale wish them every pros perity. Our base ball boys went to Imlay City on Wednesday and played a matched game with the team of that town on the fair grounds. Vale was defeated in & score of 11 to '.I. The weather this week has been rather strenuous for the adjoining fairs. Sandusky, Imlay City, and Armada are probably having the blues over the con tinued bad weather of the week. W. J.-Miller and family moved this week to their farm recently purchased of Fred McConnell. The house on Mechanic st. recently vacated by them is occupied by Fred McConnell and family. Mrs. John II olden has been inSarnia this week attending the funeral of her brother, (leorge Laughhead, whose death came very suddenly in the far northwest and whose body was brought home to be interred. Mary Urown entertained a few friends on Tuesday evening at the home of her sister, Mrs. Kate Menerey, in honor of Mr. Aruot and daughter Mrs. Verna Wooley, of Deckerville. The amusement of the evening was the game ''500'. The L. 11. S. of the Presbyterian church has planned a series of coOees and the first one will be given at the home of the president Mrs. Helen lteid, on Wednesday next, Oct. 12 from 3:30 p. m. 10 cents. It is hoped that many will drop in for a light lunch and a cup of coffee. Gentlemen as well as ladies are welcome. ljrown City lodge of Oddfellows wiH visit Advance Lodge, No. 110, at Vale Friday evening, October 14th, and con fer the initiatory degree. Urown City has a fine working degree team and it will be worth while for all Oddfellows of Vale to attend on above date. If you are an Oddfellow you are cordially invited to come out and welcome the visiting brethren. Tuesday of this week was an ideal day for an auction sale, at least so it proved to be by the immense crowd that attended Hugh Moore's sale, and the lively bidding on everything. (J. W. Hell conducted the sale and he cer tainly is entitled to a great deal of credit for the good prices secured for live stock and implements. The sale footed up over $1,800. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Knowles depart ed from Vale Tuesday evening to take up their residence at lleaverdam, Wis., where Mr. Knowles is employed as fore man of the weave room in the woolen mills of that place. Daring Mr. and Mrs. Knowles residence In Vale they have made many friends who regret very much to see them leavs. The best of good wishes and prosperity go with them to their new home. Mrs. Mary Harris, who is leaving Vale for a new home in Port Huron, was happily reminded that she had many friends around here by the ap pearance at her home Wednesday at 5 p. m. of her neighbors, to the number of twenty-five, who came with many good things for supper and prepared to en Joy the meal with her. A pleasant so cial time followed and many 'regrets were expressed at the change she is about to make, which loses them a eood friend and neighbor. A relative of F.x-vice president Fair banks this week bought Christopher Danielson's farm of &JO acres in Lynn township and also Mr. Koot's 400 acre farm across the road. Arthur Seymour lias sold his farm oue mile north and mile west of Vale to John Larahee,of Valley Center. Heat once bought the Peter Doelle place one mile north of here. The body was taken to Fort Wayne, Iud for burial. Mrs. Karn and daughter Hattie are attending the funeral. A large circle of friends deeply sympathize with the family in their bereavement. Whooping cough is not regarded by many people as being a very serious malady but as a matter of fact, there are more deaths in Michigan caused by whooping cough than small pox. There is not the precaution taken with whoop ing cough and it is allowed to spread, although there is a law that if a case is not reported a line of !?100 and three months imprisonment is imposed. A Democratic rally is advertised for Vale on Tuesday, October II, at 10:30 o'clock in the morning. The public generally is invited to turn out and hear state affairs discussed by Hon. Lawton T. Hemans, candidate for gov ernor; John C. Graham, candidate for prosecuting attorney of St. Clair county; Thos. Wellman, candidate for state senator, and others. The meeting will be held )n open air if weather permits otherwise in Central Hall.
