one of the big handicaps In the
stamp redemption campaign which Is
now being vigorously puehod In Mem
phis Is eliminated by the use of this
certificate. Many who promised to buy
stamps have forgotten their authorised
agents and if their pledges have not
bren turned Into headquarters thoy do
not know where to go to get their
cards and redeem them even after they
have bought their stamps.
Under thin plan one receives full
credit, nnd Mr. Armstrong Is confident
that use of this certificate will greatly
facilitate redemption and thereby sub
stantially increase the purchase of
stamps against outstanding pledges.
Special List Compiled.
A list was compiled Wednesday at
war savings headquarter! of all per
sons who pledged thcmeelves to buy
$100 or more worth of stamps. This
Hat will be turned over to the special
committee of the Chamber of Com
merce appointed to aid In war stamp
pledge redemption, with the request
that it. precede immediately with the
collect ion of the money due on these
pledges. A. E, Jennings li chairman
of tills committee and Tie has a large
number of enthusiastic wokers asso
ciated with him who are well equipped
to undertake this task. Tills list will
contain the name of every man or
woman who pledged to buy $1,000 worlh
of stamps as well as umounts from
$100 lo $900.
Further progress was reported at
headquarters Wednesday In securing
redemption of smaller pledges. But
there Is marked slownoss in the rate
at which the larger pledges are being
redeemed. The bulk of the money Is
In pledges ranging from $100 to $l,0o,
and It Is for this reason that the step
already outlined Is to be taken.
Redeemed by Mail.
Mr. Armstrong said Wednesday that
a number of persons who signed
pledges in Memphis In June and Who
had since moved away from this city
had remitted within the past two or
mree nays to redeem tnem.
"If people who are no longer resi
dents of Memphis Ihink enough of
their pledges to redeem them, those
who make their homes here certainly
should think enough of theirs to take
similar action," said Mr. Armstrong In
commenting on this phase of the situa
tion. AH pledge enrds not redeemed will
be drawn into headquarters before the
last day of the year, and they will
then be held subject to such action
as the treasury department may deem
expedient.
I'nloss there Is material Increase In
the rati' at which redemption is pro

over which the treasury department
