sold and the speculators have taken advan

The firm of Dwyer & Poland , flour
and food store , whoso place of buai-
ness is on Dodge stroot.noar Fifteenth ,
was victimized yesterday to the ex
tent of thirty-five dollars by n shrewd
; hof ! nnd his confederate.
About noon a tall , lank individual
wont into the utoro and inquired of
Mr. Dwyer if the firm kept hny to
oil. Upon receiving an afllrmativo
answer ho followed the proprietor to
the rear of the store anJ wnu shown
the stock of horse food. lie declared
that ho was looking for timothy hay
and was told that it was not to bo )
found in the country and that the wild
hay was about the bout to be
had. He then made inquiries as to
the supply of corn , and afterwards of
bran , and at length , having exhausted
the subject of feed in general , ho fol
lowed Mr. Dwyer back to the front of
the store.
In the meantime an expressman had
idK
come in for some food , and , being
told to help himself , weighed
out what ho wanted. When
the proprietor came to the
front ho handed him a bill out 10of (
which to take the change. Mr ,
Dwyer stepped to the cabinet doak in
which the money drawer wait situated
but on btarting to open it with his
key found that ho had boon antici
pated. The drawer had boon opened
with a "jimmy" and the contents ,
about $35 in cash were gone. Inat
looking about , it ws discovered that
the tall seeker after timothy hay was
gone also , and the size of his game
was soon measured up. The fellow
had had a confederate , and the loca
tion of the money drawer being as
certained , had drawn Mr. Dwyer off
towl the rear of the store on a pretext
while hid confederate tapped the till.
It was a bold game , but B successful
ono , nnd the perpetrators made good
their escape with the booty in the
shape of legal tender. Mr. Dwyer
says ho would know the thief if ho
saw him , but the improbability of see
ing him is the hitch.

moat effectively.
The Kohlmeior family regaled the
guests with a beautiful Tyrolcso song ,
which was most enthusiastically re
ceived.

Kuommali and 0. Schmidt worked in
defatigable to make the affair a grand
success , which it assuredly proved to

The society intend to give an en
