Conversing with Commander Vander- Voort the whistle blow for our destina tion. It was n gloomy day and the re ceiving force teemed to feel its effect. A ( quad of three or four moistened veterans raised a hoarse cheer as the Council Bluffs dotachraont shook the hated railway corporation mad from the ooloH of their foot nnd formed on iho platfcrm. By the way , Vandotvoort has a photonraph of himself taken at the time of his exit from Andorsonvlllo. The old songs , the old stories of the camp , the fray , the field of Thomas who loved his boys , of HoPhorson who foil , and all the dusty recollections that Ho strewn over the southland from Harper's Ferry to Galyoston , from Uonolson to Savannah were goiio over and some how they norer will tire in the soldier's oar. oar. After dinner and the tables were covered so profusely that they scarcely betrayed the attack of the military. Vandorvoort waa then Introduced by Commander French and opoko on the "Nobleness of Fraternity , Charity and Loyalty" for half nn ) hour. Tears came from the gentle eyes of the ladies present as they listened , and wo surmise they were not far from the eyelids of many n severe-looking HO- dier as ho thought of an old comrade whoso dying eyes had mot his fate down in the sunny land. J. B , Cook , from across the Iowa divide , waa present and addressed his comrades of the western side. Our own comrade , John Lludt , spoke ex tensively , ana kept the audience In a cmllo. 0. Tuo Glee club , with W. M. Carlyle loader , nbly seconded by Dr. Warren , added their voices to the festivity. When the Glee club como to sing the virtues of the army bean , the old veterans thought they could teach 'em something , BO when "Beans for breakfast , benns for dinner , " wao the refrain , all joined in , ladirs included ; but when the wnrriora went on with the genuine , nlmon-pnro version , ' 'Saw ' my Ice ; off , " there waa such u blank halt in the soprnno that it near ly killed the coiig on the spot. The lad'cs ' , however , seemed to appreciate the inulody of the refrain , oven though from modesty they couldn't join lu the sentiment. Then the dauco came on , nnd though mcst of the Council Bluff * party were mnrriud men the bright cyo.i and lovely figurco of the ladles ut Missouri Valley must have sadly din arranged the heart of moro than ono , if wo are any judgo. Ono thing v/o feared , hitherto unknown , that is , that the circulating medium of the Blufla is a base cotmtoifdir , utterly without value , at a G. A. R. reception. Not a cent of our money would the people ple of Valley take for anything served and wo were constrained to bring it all homo with us.
