Trading In Provisions Ncrvouo , Unset- tied and lo\ver Cntllo I-'nlrljr Ac-live AIUj ; Hun of CHICAGO PRODUCE MAIIKKT. Ciiir.xtio , Dee. 20. [ SpecialTelegram to the Bni : . ] The grain markets disappointed the professional traders to-iluy by going up In stead nf down , tnid ns usual when tliclr ex- prctntlonH nro not renll/cd , the professionals clumped front and helped the advance some. Thrro was aoinu weakness early , partly duo to the belief that It must como and partly to n sudden break In provisions The weakness , however , was short-lived and the dccllno paused by It was unimportant. The strength in wheat plainly canio from Now York. That market advanced and. the heaviest buying hero was for New York account. The at ronger feeling in New York was variously attributed to the war scare over the military prepnra- slons of Germany and Hnsslu , to the reported attempted assassination of the czar and to the prospect of u cold wave and HH injury to winter wheat. Probably the buying of wheat for the continent , however , was the most potent Inlluencc. May wheat opened ut sc : ! , which was fractionally under last night's closinp , and during the early trading fell to MJWy.y ( c , but immediately recovered the lost ground and advanced to 8.'l o , then fell to 83 , ' e and by successive steps , each u trillo higher than the other , finally reached SIJ < e and hung about I O c below that price for the rest of the morning , clos ing at 1 o'clock at H'lc. January wheat opened at T.IJ Tf.Xe , which was the lowest lK > int , advanced to TGJfc and closed ut Tfl c bid at 1 o'clock. The Improvement in corn was about the same as in wheat , and there was the same clivumstanco of early weakliest ) and later strength. May corn opened at r > ! lj , c , and during the early trading , In which there was borne weakness manifested , owing to the break in pork , declined to 5c. ; ! Then there was a gradual impiovement until the high price of the day Me was reached at about the tlmo the estimate of receipts for tomorrow row as only 175 cars was received. Thci o was snmo icactlon , however , and at the 1 o'clock close May corn stood at KJJfQ.'iHXi' . January corn opened at17X < : and never fell below that price , selling up to and closing ut 48s8'c. A part of the depression yesterday was attributed to the selling by the heaviest local holder of grain. That same trader was a buyer to-day and consequently his follow ing changed front. There was also con siderable buying by commission houses. The speculative oats market occupied its accustomed position of an humble follower of corn , and the price of the May future , in which was almost the only trading , improved } { ? . There was no very active trading. May orits opened at ! KIae , which was ' c under yesterday's closing , advanced to JKIJffc mid closed at 1 o'clock at .Ktyfc bid. Junuaryouti sold at ! ' ,0' ' e and closed with that price bid at 1 o'clock. The provision trade was nervous , unset tled and lower. Under the Influence of u severe break in the price of hogs , which were depressed by unexpected receipts , trad ing opened in a feverish condition mid with the old bear element in n i > osition to control the movement. Bused on last night's closing , first sales of pork occurred at prices showing a decline of SOQ i c , of lard at a deprecia tion of l" e , anil ot shoit ribs at a reduction of lfi ( ' 17J e. Short ribs and lard showed promptly n disposition to recover , but pork was further depressed by general oral selling 10 12'jJ' and for n time was almost demorali/cd. Later , however , pork rallied in sympathy with other line ? mid advanced 2. " > e. From their lowest price ? hhort ribs appreciated 5iiine ( und lard 7)a ) ( < ! 10e. Correspondence New York Herald : There is u tract of land lying south of Kansas and Colorado , nnd between the Indian Territory and NcwMe.xioowhieh han been known for many years as "No Man's Land. " It lias this name beciuibe by error * in surveyn , by exclusions in acts of congress , llxing boundaries and by general neglect and inadvertence it lies outside of any orpanS/ed state or territory of the United State * . It is really a "No Man's Land , " for no courts have jurisdiction within its bounds ; no laws extend over or apply to it ; its lands cannot bo owned , because con gress has not authorized their sale. "No Man's Land" is simply a bpot on the map. A tolerably large spot , for it contains 3.IS7it)0 ( : ) acres , being 1(17 ( miles long by H4J wide. It is fertile , well watered , lias valuable deposits of coal , a flue climate , and , being almost all good land , a government report says that it has the raw material , or 211,000 farms of 1(10 ( acres each. It wss for years a huge cattle run. It contains at present 10,000 American farmers , who have bent one of their number to Wafhiiigton , to ask congress in their name to give them u territorial government , with the laws and protcc- , ion of the flag which they arc so totally ind singularly without. They have igreed to call their territory Ciinarron , rom its principal river , and if congress s as kind to them as their good conduct deserves the present winter will see ct > - ablibhed the territory of Cinmaron. Tliete 10,000 Americans went into No Man's Land , knowing that the land they settled on and cultivated they could get 10 legal title to unless congress would act for their protection ; knowingr that 10 crime , not even murder , committed n No Man's Land could be punished , ) ccausc no courts , no law olllcors , no "aws took cognizance of what was done .n No Man's Land. They had no author- ty to form a government ; no power to evy tuxes -for the simplest or most nec- cusury purposes ; no power to make laws which any inhabitant need obey. Chaos was their enforced condition. . . Yet these 10,000 have founded towns , milt bohoollioiih.es and churolicf , and ire supporting these. For physical ailrnentscspecially those incident to declining years , there is no remedy that produces such satisfactory esults as Dr. J. H. McLean's Liver and tCidney Balm , its genial and invigor- iting effect on liver and kidneys is re markable. R6v. E. II.
