CATTLE The weather was dark and
gloomy and the cattle looked their worst , so
tha'i ' it was Jutt the kind of a day to make
a dull and unsatisfactory market , and as a
still further Influence In the same direc
tion reports from Chicago and Kansas City
were not at nil encouraging. In spite of
these bear Inlluences , however , the very
good local demand and the further fact
Mint out of nil the cattle here there were
only about thirtv-ilvo loads of cornfed
steers' In the yard ? , rendered the market
fully steady with yesterday. More than
that the feeling was , if anything , better
and the market more active. Buyers all
seemed to want good beeves , and they went
after them , so that the pens were not long
In being cleared , practically everything
being sold and weighed up before midday.
With cows and heifers ths situation was
nboire the same as It was with cornfcd
steers. The supply was not large , whllo
there was a good demand. Buyers were all
out looking for supplies , and the most of
the offerings changed hands in good sea
son. The market as a whole on cow stuff
was very satisfactory. Bulls , however ,
continue very slow at ithe decline noted
list week. Shippers must bear in mind
'hni this decline is Just as largo ns re
ported , that Is at the very least 25c on an
average , nnd on some kinds sales show n
loss of probably 40c. Shippers must nleo
understand that the market here IK no
worse than at other market points , but that
there has been H slump in the bull market
all along the line , which Is very liable to
occur nt this season of itbe year.
In the etocker nnd feeder division the
situation was not quite so favorable for
the sellers ns the weather was against It.
Such cattle ns happened to please omslde
buyers sold In some instances nt fully
steady prices/ but the general market was
weak nnd a llttln lower. No speculator
seerr.p.d to feel like paying steady prices
with the weather HO unfavorable , however
there was all told , a fair demand , and the
most of the feeding nnd stock cattle sold
In good season , although there were more
here than for some time past. Repre
sentative fales :

off the wire edge ot ( ho nnrket , nnd the
close was "low and n little easier.
Good light nnd light ml\rd loads sold nt

heavier mixed lo.id.M sold largely at $3.65.
Some good fancy hogs sold at J3.70.
