But In the .last two weeks there have been heavy rains In all TexHa except the Panhandle and con servative men place the wheat crop at 13, OOO.OOu bushels, and the oata In Dallas and eurroomllng counties at forty to sixty bush els to the acre. "Wa have heard a food deal," aald A. B. Jaqtilth, "of heavy shipment from Omaha, nnd other markets that would flood Chi cago. I can t nee It. The terminal ele vator of Omaha and Council Bluffs have only fcW.WO bushels of contract corn. All ot this hoa been delivered on May contract, and all of It has been sold and placed to fro south. This takes any weight from the teal market and .the stocks In the hands of the fnriaers west of the Mississippi are too small to flood anv market. The racelnta. it V course, will naturally Increase a little If the trices remain as high as they are. y1 .. v "The bears have be " a, : the early planting In I i h f but 1 believe that wl f f ) ' , and tha frosts In the I M'"f state nothing hits bee been feeling good over Iowa and Nebraska, tth these cold nights i western Dart of the been aalned. A Chicago paper Bays receipts of eorn from Nebraska nave Increased because of the anticipation among western shippers of the Increase In rates June 1. Tba early corn market was strong on an active commission house demand, The market closed weak and near the towewt point. July opened unchanged to 'no higher at 47?fc'84'i4kC, sold between 47V4SSj and closed at 4i(iic. Local receipts were 49 cars, with 4 of contract grade. An easier leeling in oats late In the ses sion was due almost entirely to weakness In corn. Prices held firm until the last hour, when moderate liquidation caused some recessions. After opening a shade higher at 3"c, July ranged between 8SVu 3S'o and closed at 30 VulHV:. Local re ceipts were 82 csrs. Provisions were steady, notwithstanding the easier tone of grains. About the only feature of trading waa sales of pork and purchases of lard by outsiders. NEW YORK, May 14.-Prlces of stocks receded for a time today and then recovered parny, closing Irreguiar and lower tnan last night. The Wabaan stocks were weak un tne move, ineiil by dissatisned holders of Wabash debenture B bonds lo enforce an accoutu Ing. l he general movement was narrow. evidence ot support tor United States Steel preterred hud a somewhat reassuring sentiment, 'the bank statement also failed to show aa large an - impairment of the surplua as was feared, by reason of the unexpectedly moderate loan expansion. However, the very large transactions of lha week reckoned by tne system ot dally averages by which tne nana statement Is computed confuse the shovlna so much that the publications beget hesitation rather man assurance, 'today a shipment of I6.U00, (mo gold does not figure In tne statement at all nor dues the payment this mornlna or W.l&l.wO by the subireasury on account of the Japanese gold which arrived at San rrancisco yesterday. Also, arrangements already made point to tba shipment on Tuesouy ot 10,5uo,uu0 ot gold and the limits of the gold movement do not seem to be yet in signt. Until Paris relaxes Its de mand for gold the movement does not seem likely to bo checked. Tne allotment of the Russian loan In Paris may release funds on a large scale. A possible contingency is a resulting redundancy of supplies In Paris which may divert the tide from that point. The total sales of bonds today, par value, were $tt45,0o0. The placing of part of the Japanese loan here establishes a fund for that govern ment to draw upon and It la believed will atop the shipments of Japanese gold to San Francisco and may even Involve some additional gold shipments from New York on Japanese account. Alao, part of this week's outgo of gold was ugalnst New York subscriptions to the Russian loan. The course of our export trade since the Panama payment first became a problem has diminished the supply of commercial exchange by reason of the heavy shrinkage In grain and cotton exports and has thrown upon the market additional requirements for exchange which are calling for large gold shipments aside from the Panama canal shlpment- lfut It seems apparent alao that many holders of stocks have been Induced to keep their holdings by reason of the fear that a rise In the money murket would prompt the throwing over of such holdings has been the motive for some speculative pressure upon the market and has given added effect to the reactionary factors Iti the general outlook. The most influential of these Is the conservative tone of au thorities In the iron and steel trade. The United States Stoel securities have played a lending part in the week's trading, with marked sympathetic effect on the whole list. Railroad trafflo officials are disposed to admit that the advent of spring weather, although it has resulted In some revival of traftlo has not brought forward deferred tonnage in the volume that was expected. Some high grade bonds have risen In price, but the general tone In bonds has become rather heavy in sympathy with stocks. United .States registered Us have declined per cent on call during the weea. As compared with last week there Is a decrease amounting to nearly 4.000 head and aa compared with the same wsek of last year, tha decrease amounts to about 8,000 head. Other marketa have also had moderate receipts so that the total supply for th week at all the principal marketa shows ' a loss aa compared with last week. Considering the light receipts the beef Steer market has not been entirely satis factory to the selling Interests. Each day salesmen tried to get more money and while the market did show some strength on a few oocastons, still trading as a rule waa slow with no Ufa or tone to tha mar ket such as would naturally be expected with light offerings. As compared with the close of laat week, price are very little different and In fact there Is not enough change In either direction to be worthy of mention. The cause for the lack of demand on the part of packers Is found In the fact that eastern marketa have been rather flooded with dressed beef so that packers could not take their usual amount of stock. Good to choice beef steers are quotable from $4.6O&'6.00 a 1th something fancy a little above that. Fair to good grades sell from 34.0mu4 W, and com mon to fair from 1s.6w14.oo. Tha cow market is also fust about steady ror the week. The proportion ot cow stun to the total receipts has been small all the week so that there have been none too many to supply even the limited demands I of local packers. Salesmen tried to ad- I vance prlcea but were unable to do so aa packers persistently refused to raise their bids. Cannera are very slow sale and are undoubtedly lower. Some of them have to sell below $2.00, but most of them sell from 3.vO&8.26, with cutters from $2.603.00; fair o aood arades. 13 Otxaa.60. and good to choice from 33.60iff4.26. Bulls have been in fairly good demand all the week and are safely steady. Oood 10 cnotc grades sen irom 3s.bug4.tu; isir to good from 33.0o4fJ.6O, and commoner grades from $3.00 down. Veal calves have been In llheril aunnlv all tha week and prices are In extreme cases a quarter lower. With the exception of something veiy. choice, which In extreme cases will bring eo jo, aoout .UU ts tne top. Blockers and feeders have been in fairly good demand and the better gradea may be quoted steady for the week. Common sinns tnougn, nave been neglected and are a little lower. After pack ers had their more urgent orders filled they were inclined to be bearish, so that the close waa alow and weak. Tha bulk of tha hogs went from 34 60 to $4.70, with choice loads selling from 34.70 to 4476. The commoner kinds went from M.60 down. Al- tnougn tne market was not active at any time, still practically evervthlna waa de posed ot by 10 o'clock la the morning. For the week receipts have been light, aa there Is a decrease aa compared with laat week amounting to mora than 16,00 head and aa compared with th same week of last year there is a decrease ot about 24.000 head. Tne market has not fluctuated mucn during tn week, but prices have averagad a littlo better than laxt week, though at the close the market Is only a shade higher than at the close of last week.
