There was a ma terial expansion of the volume of trans actions In today's rising slock market over the halting and hesitating market of yesterday, iTie market still preserved Its professional appearance, however, and the movement was regarded rather as a readjustment of the price level to the changed conditions in ths money market than as a response to any actual large absorption of securities. The readjust ment In values waa quite radical and sudden. Other factors were given a nominal Influence In the day's movement, but there can be no doubt that changed face of the money prospect lay at the root of the mors cheerful, sentiment ex pressed by the rise In prices. Yesterday's quotations of 1 per cent for' call loans was given sentimental Importance which perhaps waa exaggerated considering the small amount of funds placed at that fig ure and the belated period of the day at which the quotations were made. To day, however, the call loan rate did not rise above 2H per cent, compared with a maximum rate of S'i per cent yester day. Tha movement of the international exchanges Is significant of the change In ccndltlons. April 1 has been looked for ward to for a long time back as tha limit of the period for which New York must refrain from asserting its claim for gold upon foreign money markets In order-to save those markets from a pressure that would endanger them. Now, with the quarterly settlements concluded and the expected relaxation In foreign money markets. New York is without urgent necessity to draw on Europe. London has removed the obstacles to an outgo of gold the price of the metal declining In that market and a snarn fall In tha open discount rate opening the way for New York to secure gold If it Is desired. i ne rapia rail In our own money rates iiirunwnne nas run up the sterling ex- cnange rate to where the Import of e-nld offers no profit. The market as a whole was In pretty fair condition. There waa a good demand for lamb, which sold very frsely t good, steady firlces, thsre being quits a number of on lis good enough to bring (7.90, but noth ing as choice as ths 88 lambs yesterday. Th most of the lambs sold In very fair season In the morning. Ther wer no old Wethers of any conse quence on sale, but good Mexican yearling sold as high as t7, th hlgheat price ever paid on this market. In February, 1906, yearlings sold up to 86.90, which was the highest price paid up until today. Shorn yearlings - sold up to to 76. Ther wer quit a good many ewes on sale this morn ing, and for some reason or other packers wer not quit so hungry for them as on most days. The result was that the ewe market was a little slow and If anything a little easier. Parkers claimed that the quality of the ewes, on an average, was none too good and that that was the rea son why they did not sell more readily. fuuiKiifinn un Kiiim. vjroou 10 tniN. h lambs, 37. 66-8.00; fair to good lambs, 17.26 437.66; good to choice yearlings, lamb weights. f6.66ci7.00; fair to good yearlings, lamb weights, t6.15li6.66; good to choice yearlings, heavy weights, 86.2Mcfl.60j fHlr to good yearlings, heavy weights, ts.90y6.26: f ood to choice old wethers. f6.0(V3.2r; fair o good old wethers, f.76U.00; good to choice ewes, t6.6t6.80; fair to good ewes, t6.0ncu6.6O.
