and one or more member of the executive
committee will be In charge from now on
to look after the Intereata of the railroad
men and their campaign againat "needless
agitation of tho railroad question and re
ductions of ratea which promise nothing
for the general g-ood, but threaten to cut
the revenuea of the rallwaya to auch an
extent that wage reduction! and decreased
forces will be neceimsry."
"We are not going to enter the national
campaign In any way," eaJd 8. C. Macom
br, member of the committee from North
rintte. "We liave no Idea of declaring
oureelves for either Mr. Taft or Mr.
Bryan. Our Interest la wholly within the
tat of Nebraska and we will not be
Identified with any movement to" aupport
either national ticket. But we are in poli
tlca Juat the aame Nebraska politics, and
when the time cornea we will be found
looking out for the Interests of the rail
way wage earnera by knowing something
about the men who are to be elected to the
Nebraska legislature and who will be up
for election to places on the State Railway
commission.
Not a Partisan More.
"Thtao are the places we are going to
watch and the places which similar or
ganisations In other states will watch, but
let 11 be distinctly understood that the or
ganization as an organisation will not
quibble with either the republican or demo
cratic parties as tp the national Injunction
question or other similar questions which
may agitata some of the labor organisa
tions or which may arouse the labor or
ganisations and brotherhoods to which our
members belong."
The members of the executive committee
say the organisation In Nebraska la grow
ing rapidly and at present over SO per cent
of the railway employes In the state are
enrolled. Several meetings are being held
In different parte of the state every weelt,
but Mr. Macomber and Chairman F. M.
Ryan denied that the organisation ever bad
a thought of calling a state meeting as
suggested by tho Evening Plnklet.
Purpose of Organisation.
To make the purpose of the organisation
clear a circular letter has been prepared
which Is being sent to all railway employes
of the state. This letter says In part:
We desire to make clear that It Is not
our purpose to prevent, oimtruct or oppose
the passag of any measure which the
general welfare of the state demands, but
we do propose to see to It that our in
terests shall hereafter receive the aame
consideration as all other classes of clti
sens, taxpayers and voters, Instead of being
Ignored by the professional politician who
Imagines he la doing our thinking for us
and whose only stock In trade Is an exten
sive vocabulary composed principally of
hot air. Not only Is our numerical strength
a gratifying feature, but the Intelligence
of each and every member Is an Inspira
tion prompting; every member to greatet
efforts toward securing the results for
which thla association Is formed. We wish
to especially direct your attention to the
coming political campaign, and Impress
upon you the necessity of carefully looking
Into each candidate's record aa to hia abil
ity and his attitude relative to our. Inter
ests. It must be clearly tindestood bv
those who will give our Interests the full
and fair consideration accorded to others.
We do not antagonise the Intereats of the
banker, merchant, manufacturer or farmer,
but regard them as our friends whose In
terests and ours are mutual. We believe
the Interests of the 22,nno employes of this
state aro too Important to be continually
subjected to such political Juggling as In
the past. We have already gone on record
favoring federal supervision of railroads
and the adjustment of unfair rates, and
stand ready at all times to support legis
lation which tends to promote equally the
Interests of all, through which prosperity
will surely follow.
PALMER BACK FROM EUROPE
Returns from Three Months' Tour
and Mrs. Palmer Tarries In
the F.aat.
Captain H. E. Palmer returned to Omaha
Wednesday morning from a three months'
tour of Europe. Mr. Palmer was accom
panied by his wife on the European tour,
but she did not return to Omaha with him.

gansett Pier.
"What atruck me most forcibly," said
Captain Palmer, "In my sojourn in the va
rious large cities of Europe, was the im
mense amount of beer and wims consumed
by the natives. Notwithstanding this I
never saw an Intoxicated person, which
might serve as an object lesson to our pro
hibitionists. "Another striking feature was the absence
of flies, a post which I think America will
soon have a corner on,
"What startles a European the most on
his arrival In this country Is the newness
of things after becoming accustomed to
Europe and Its antiquities.
"Our Ivngest stops were made In and
around Naples, Rome, Venice, Paris and
Berlin, with no one and two-day stops at
points of Interest between those places. Al
though we are comparatively in our In
fancy in America thla country Is conceded,
van across the Atlantic, as being the
greatest In the world, and although not
having the advantage of artificial decora
tions for thousands of years American scen
ery is equal to. If It does not excel, that of
Europe. The Hudson Is Just as beautiful
aa the Rhine, even though the hills banking
it aro not capped with castles built In the
arlter centuries.
"All In all, we bad a splendid trip, en
joyed the best of health, but are still glad
to get home again."
