Bssed on recent reports of their earn- I lngs, thirty-nine lesding Industrial corpora tions of the country would contribute ap proximately 15.000,000 to the government revenues under ths proponed plan of levy ing a 1 per cent tax on net lnoomes. These thlrty-nln corporations would, of course, contrlbut a comparatively small amount of the money which would be obtained by th government through this source, most of which would com from the great rail road corporations. Of the Industrial concerns, the Standard OH company would be the largest contrib utor, paying $1,100,000, according to calcu lations based on the latest report of earn ings available. The United States Steel corporation would com next with $f4 W7 and th American Tobacco company third with $4eS.43l. Th American Telephone and Telegraph company would pay In $302,484, and, aside from th companies mentioned, th annual tax In every other case wouid be under $300,000. Half a dosen concerns would hav to pay between $100,000 and $700 000. and th tax on th remainder would b less than $100 000 each. These figures ar deduced from the statements of earnings mostly for ths re cent fiscal year, In which heavy losses wr reflected from th depression fol lowing th panic, and In ordinary times undoubtedly th tax would b much larger than Indicated. 1 Tb following list ootttalna thlrty-nln Industrial corporations, together with th balanc avallabl for dividends, subjeet to th proposed $ per cent tax and th amount of revenue which would be derived therefrom: Available for . , . dividends. u,n.,alnI iopper . .ii.ikiSiM) Revenue derived. $ 7I,27 1M. ai il.ltil 140.124 90,634 nm i6,tii 26,014 21,6. .9 lea. 484 29 875 sl.Txt 41.4S7 a 66$ 40,974 126 Ul 17 SIM 177.713 92,718 121 7S US M 0t-5 T7.9XJ SI 4 M3 15, 171 M 114 m 424 tioo.iiw S5.02J 71.071 M4.W.T n m l,!i4 49 f y 41 r, S9.41S . .$4.16 K4 Tb flail I more Ohio Railroad.
