THE BEE: OMAHA, TL'EtfDAY, DECEMBER 31, l!Hi!. GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET It is Anticipated that Bear Side o Market is to Be Favored. CORN PRICES ARE NOW LOWER Duplle Claim of Henry Silra Corn Continue. (n Weaken Oats Market U Dull Closing; Trice. OMAHA. Dec SO. 1911 The wheat statistic (hat will be spread out before the speculative world todar re expected to favor the bear sldo of the market. A goodly increase In the visible uppy la anions the probabilities. This will prove a bear help In luelf. as there was A. decrease In the visible supply for the corresponding time last year. While the total visible supply Is somewhat shy of last year It shows signs of catching up with that period and It wilt likely pass It In a few short weeks. The matter of sentiment nt the close of the Board of Trade on Saturday was pretty well divided between the bulls and beam with a slight leaning to the former side. The stocks at thb northwest uro piling up In a manner quite distasteful to the bull longs at Chicago as well nt at .Minneapolis and Duluth, as there is, about 18,000,000 bushels at Minneapolis alone. A goodly quantity of wheat Is to be brought to Chicago from the north west and tht fact that hedging transac tions are to be put out In the Chicago pit from time to time Is more than likely to halt any advance that may bo In evi dence. In the face of the large stocks of wheat In all positions thcro are many who be lieve that this grain has about struck the bottom level, and that on any further Price reactions support of an unmistak able character would be seen. Those who are on the bull aide ot wheat are up and doing at all times. They have endeavored several times to Instill some bullish enthusiasm Into the market In the past ten days, but the price gains have not been of a lasting character. Deter ioration In the winter wheat country from the lack of moisture was the claim of bulls during last .week and on these claims thero was considerable grain pur chased. Those who ran away with the ItUt thought better of their Ideas later on and they liquidated their holdings at losses. Following this as a momentary bull help was a report from Buffalo that overbalanced all else, that all the wheat held In that market had been sold for fi-xport, and that It would be shipped aboard with tho opening of the season. This rumor proved to be untrue and wheat bought on It waa sold at losses. . Cash wheat unchanged to Ho lower. While those who are handling cash corn at Chicago and elsewhere claim that heavy sales of grain have been made for export during January and February next, this fact has failed to help the price In the United States, as tho south ern hemisphere has sold goodly amounts of corn right along. The oats market continues dull with a decided lull In the trade. Cash oats unchanged. Clearances: Wheat- and flour equal to 677,000 bushels; corn, ISO.OOO bushels; oats, 3,000 bushels. i Liverpool close: Wheat, Ud to Ud higher: corn, unchanged to ?id lower. FEW FACTS FOR EITHER SIDE IJenplte Kxpectattons of 'I'laht Jloney nt Cloac of Year, Call Loan Are Kantrr Than Last Week. NEW YORK, Dec. 30.-Quotutlons of stocks turned downward rather sharply for a time during the early trading today on a continuance of boar selling which affected prices on Saturday. Traders had few facts to work on In the way of new developments, nnd although they favored the short side of the market the downward movement showed little breadth. Selling was concentrated largely on the three leading Issues Reading. Untno Pacific and United States Steel each of which was dcpresncd it point, but losses among most ot the other prominent stocks wero confined to frac tions. Before the ena of the first hour the' decline was hnlted nnd prices gradu ally worked upward until shortly before the close, when tho loss eased off In aympathy with a break in international rump, uotn tne common ana preierrca fell seven points. There was some evidence of scalterca liquidation among minor Industrials and high priced Investment stocks. American Express sold down to loo, the lowest price for twelve, years. Tho copper stocks were strengthened by the an nouncement ot large rales of the metal. The principal selling agencies were raid to have adhered to the price of 17H cents. which has been quoted for some time. General Electric and Westlnghouse were strong. Despite expectations of tight money at the cloe of the year, call loans were easier today than at the end of last week. Call money oiwned at 6 per cent, and although 7 per cent was quoted later, the rate fell off sharply before the end ot the day. Renewals were mado at 7 per cent as compared with 12 per cent on Friday. There was some breadth to the bond market. Prices were steady. The total sAles, par value, were $1,731,000. At the same time other mar ket points were fairly well supplied so that any change that may luivn takon place In the general market situation' might be regarded aa an Inclination to ward weakness. Beef steers of desirable quality were In good demand and sold quite freely. Such cattle as found favor In buyers' eyes brought about steady prices, but on the other hand cattle that did not Just happen to please buyers were a little slow jn moving' with prices In such cakes weak lo lOo lower. Cows and heifers sold anywhere from steady to 10c lower, depending upon tho kind and quality. While tho trade nn cow. stuff was not quite o active as In the case or freer steers, still tne uig nuiu of the receipts had changed hands somo time beforo midday. The most desirable feeding cattle were active sellers at stronger prices. Some buyers. In fact, claimed that they paid ?ulte ft, little more money for their good eedlng Cattle than last week. On tha other hand there were quite a good many lighter cattle and quite a good many that were on the tiashv order. Cattlo of that description were at the host no more than steady and In cases weak to quite a llttlo lower.
