Tre meets were held at Wettor, a pretty Utile town on the lluhr river, at Velbart. at Husten, and finally at Bollngen, the famous cutlery center. At Wetter Mr. Festner competed with 1,009 other ath letes in the 100 meter dash, shot put, high jump, pole vault for distance, and clari thenlc exercise, and captured elghUantb place. At Velbert he landed first place In a field ot elghtynlne athletes. At Husten he won first place in a three event competition, consisting of a 100 meter dash, shot put, and the hop-step- t and-a-jump. At Bollngen, competing with the cracks of Germany, he placed In the hop-step'snd-a-jump and was a member of the relay team whlbh also placed. r. Festner stated In a recent letter to an Omaha friend that the athletlo fever had stricken Germany and thousands of aspirants are being developed. The great ambition of the German athlete is to en ter the srreat Internatlpnal athletic met and to win from the Americans.
