The •ditor's analysis of "Wheat, Silver and Prices," is eminently fair and conserva tive and bis conclusions a safe admoni tion to politicians. I have been a manafaoturer in tbe highly protected industries, and I know 1 am right, and I have seen these- wrongs inflicted daily upon the Senator Chandler is out in another strong defence of free silver and warns tbe republican party of impending doom K they do not labor for it. They will iieve* concede tbe ueoeesity for the white B»etel until they have to do it to get •votes to keep in power. The senator should act as he talks. Mark Hanna woke Saturday to find a Congo-lion on his trail to the U. 8. Sen ate. When Col. Conger says: -'Mark Banna's nomination is an insult to American labor, and every laboring man should vote against him," he tells the truth squarely, if he is a republican and lepresents Foraker, Foster and other statesmen of Ohio in saying it. NEW YORK, Aug. 31.—The confer ence between Republican leaders and representatives of several independent organizations is likely to have an im portant bearing upon the question as to who shall be the first mayor of Greater New York. A prime factor in the con ference will be Senator Thomas C. Piatt. There will be in attendance representatives of the Seth Low ele ment of the Republican party in Brook lyn, at their head being Jackson Wal lace, lately president of the Brooklyn board of aldermen, who is closely con nected with Mr. Low. Whether or not the Citizens' union of New York will be represented at the conference is to be decided at a meeting of the executive committee of that body. In the Citi zens' union there is a division npon the question of entering into an alliance with the Republican organization, one party being of the opinion that only in sucn an alliance does their lie an assur ance of defeating the Tammany nomi nee, whoever he may be, while others regard the proposed alliance as a sur render of the Union's principles of nob partisanship..
