Mloux 'lly and Mouth ItaWota. Canton News: Last Monday rounded out thirty years that Hon. George D. Perkins has been connected with that staunch friend of South Dakota, the Sioux City Journal. Some of the sinker papers in this state have attributed the interests manifested by that journal in welfare of our state to mercenary motives, but wheu joustop to think how many of the prominent men in our state who have at one time or another been connected with the Sioux City Journal, it is little wonder that Mr. Perkins* paper should manifest the iuterest it has a right to feel in the growth of our state. Hou. Thomas Thorson, a former em ploye of the Journal, was twice elected secretary of state for South Dakota: E. W. Caldwell, who will always be "Our Cal" "grew up" in the Journal otlice and was auditor of the Territory and one of the compilers of its law, Dan Scott, the veteran journalist, is a graduate from the Journal Jimmie Stahl, the able edi tor of THE MADISON LKADEK, Mr. Will iams, the present editor of the Sioux Falls Press, and several others we might mention, have been members of the Journal family. Then J. P. Morrison, one of the trusted employes of the Journ al at present, lived from infancy to man hood in this city. When so many South Dakota people have euoh kindly regard for Mr. Perkins and bis Journal, it is quite natural that Mr. Perkins and the Sioux City Journal should feel a deep interest both in his former business as sociates and the 00mmonwealth in which they have cast their lot. Sioux City was long the cheif gateway to South Dakota and it is very natural that Mr. Perkins who for so many years witnessed the growth of our state, should have a friendly interest in its development, for in a business way, the interests of our state and Sioux City have been and still are mutual.
