KING GOES TO LONDON.

station at Portsmouth Was reached

The departure from Portsmouth was

ule time being ontemplated as was

Portsmouth. The train, which was
pr-eeded by a pilot engine, reached
Victoria stalion at 5:3" p. in- The
Ftntion w-as decorated in honor of his
majesty's homecoming. Free access
was allowed the public, except to the
platform reserved for his majesty.
The king appeared to be in excel
lent spirits. The deer. as» in his
w. iirht caused by the operation gave
him an appearance of greater heinht.
He stood up in his car-'.a^e and bowed
repeatedly in respond to the eheerins
throngs on the route to the palao.

KAISER AND CZAR MEET.
German Emperor Arrives in Russian
Waters.
Reval, Russia, Aug. 7.—Emperor
Win-am of Germany arrived in the
roadsted during th® day. The ship
ping in the harbor was brilliantly dec
orated with bunting and garlands and
a Fpacious reception hall, lavishly fur
nished, had been erected on the quay.
The Russian merchant squadron,
anchored in the harbor, was dressed
with flatus. The czar, on the imperial
yacht Standart, sailed early to meet
the Hohenzollern and the German em
peror was transhipped to the Stand
art. which returned to port with thq
two emperors aboard, followed by the
Hohenzoll.-rn and the German cruiser.}
Prinz HeJnrich and Nvmphe. The
Standart passed down a line of Rus
sian warships, which fired salutes and
manned sides.

New York. Aug. 7.—About thirty
of the passengers on the disabled
schooner Notice, from Cape de Verde
islands for Providence, which was
towed to this port Tuesday, are not
mentioned on the manifest and the im
migrant authorities have detained
th. at Kliis island during an investi
gation.
Some months ago a warning was
sent out that immigrants were being
smuggled to this country in small ves
sels from the Cape Verde islands.
